Winch mount/bumper for Limited

What would be ideal would be a 4Runner with a Limited interior (plus center diff for AWD) and a Trail or Pro exterior trim and rear locker. Call it the Platinum edition. All the parts would easily bolt up with nothing new to fabricate. They'd easily sell a few thousand of those, most likely with a waiting list.

Back on topic, the only reason they made bumpers for the 2010-2013 Limited models is they had identical trim with the 2010-2013 SR5. There were about 10x as many SR5's as Limiteds. Once the SR5's switched over to the higher-clearance "Trail" style trim in 2014 the Limited was all by itself. With only a few thousand vehicles, and a very low percentage of those vehicles' owners wanting such a serious mod, the market just isn't there.

Your options are limited to a custom build with a local shop, a bumper transplant with an SR5 or Trail, or just go with the full replacement.

I too do not like the front ends on the non Limited models and the multi mount set up adds some versatility (front or rear) and keeps the factory look when not needed.

Weight is very important factor in the build. Slim bumper option is also keep the styling very close to original which is a factor of appearance.

I found plenty of options, sorry you're having trouble.

As far as a slimline winch mount, if all you want is a winch then do a hidden mount and cut a hole for the fairlead. There are obvious design inhibitions with the limited front end preventing the same type of low-pro winch mount you're referencing on the sr5 and trail models. That said the Limited facia hangs down really low, if you were to take a Limited into terrain where you'd need a winch for recovery than you'll need to replace the bumper afterwards anyways, so I'd say just get a full plate bumper, arb bumper, or swap in an sr5/trail bumper. If you need a winchfor clearing fallen trees or what not then just do a hidden mount.

I have always been surprised at how many aftermarket products there are for the 4runners. There really isn't that many of them. A hundred thousand or so a year in the United States. It isn't like the F-Series trucks were it is 10x that value in a year.

So my thoughts are that there can't be that many aftermarket bumpers sold for the 4runners. Has to be a small percentage. How many bumpers does a manufacturer actually make in a year and sell for a 4runner. Is it 1000, or a 100, or is it 10?

I just installed the CBI hidden hitch on my Limited to use a Warn Multimount M8000. It fit great and you can't even see it if you're not looking for it. Quick cut on the black grill insert. It holds the winch nice and high.

The biggest issue with Multimount as it cuts approach angle and if you stuck nose down, thee is nothing you can do to get it in.

First, the total number of vehicles isn't critical with aftermarket support. The critical number is how many vehicles have owners willing to do mods. There are way more Corollas than 4Runners, but very few people want to mod a Corolla. There are way FEWER FJ's than 4Runners (<20k per year before being discontinued), but MORE aftermarket support because more owners wanted to buy mods.

Second, the majority of complex aftermarket parts (suspension components, lockers, etc.) were put out there because the parts are shared with other vehicles. A lot of sharing goes on between the FJ, Tacoma, Lexus GX, and even past 4Runner generations. Going worldwide, you've got the Fortuner, Hilux, and Land Cruiser Prado. There is absolutely no way ARB would spend the money to develop a locker specific to the 5th Gen 4Runner. Similar with things like the cheap damage-multiplier bull bars and grill guards; they aren't form-fitting so they fit multiple vehicles.

And finally, vehicle-specific bolt-on armor pieces (bumpers, sliders, skids) are typically simple make-on-demand items out of shops that product products for a large variety of vehicles. None of these places have warehouses full of 4Runner bumpers, except maybe a few extra items here and there made during down-time. You send the money, they add your product to the fab queue. They do have the up-front cost of mocking up and test-fitting a sample, then making plans and templates for future production, but those costs are absorbed in the final price. The R&D costs spread across low sales numbers are the reason why a hundred dollars in steel plus a few shop hours cutting and welding ends up costing over a thousand $. Still much cheaper than a custom fabricated piece. As the current generation vehicles gets older more people should start cutting and modding, so maybe prices will drop.

I am not talking about Toyota Corollas or Prius... Trucks. I specifically mentioned the Ford F-Series.

I am also fully aware of how much R&D goes into this stuff. I have dumped more money then my 4runner was brand new into modding my truck.

I agree partially with you. But it is pretty simple. Even if half of the 4runner owners modded their vehicles it is a drop in the bucket compared to the truck market.

If truly what you say is true that a larger percentage of 4runner owners mod their vehicles compared to truck owners. Then with that same logic I would expect to apply to Limited owners as well.

My main question is just if if they make 20 bumpers a year or is it 200? If the limited one costs 3-4-500 bucks more I think you would be surprised at what people would buy. Even if it makes no sense to put one of these on a limited model.

Don't suppose you ever found that picture of the slimline on a 2016 Limited did you? I've been searching and looking at options and I like what that bumper has to offer. Just curious how it's going to ultimately look on the limited front end after cutting.

A custom hidden winch or slimline style could be built by a fab shop. I'm not an expert at bumpers nor have I built one like it before and it took me about 6hours or so to fab a custom hidden winch mount for my trail edition. Assuming the bumper clearance is similar underneath, I think a fab shop would build you a custom one to fit in about the same time. At the time I didn't have CNC burn table available either - so I had to make it all from hand cut parts.

The limited has an easier bumper to make look pretty with a partial winch bumper. On a limited I would not cut the front bumper. I think I could fab one easy enough that would use a steel cover plate overtop of the existing bumper with a few holes through it for mounting hardware that would effectively sandwich the lower cross bar.
