Is anyone else experiencing a whistling noise at highway speeds?

It sounds like it's coming from the top of the windshield. I've heard this since I picked up the vehicle about 4 months ago, but I'm wondering if it's common.

Do you have some sort of bug shield installed or a OEM hood protector? If so, that might be the cause.

Another rare chance might be your crossbars installed backwards

BTW, Also let me tell you nicely to search before posting a thread before others start screaming at you to search before making a new thread. Hope one of these are your issues.

I did a search for wind noise, but nothing useful came up. I didn't think to search for whistling. Sorry about that.

Thanks, I check the crossbars. Other than that, I'm thinking the windshield seal.

From looking at your past post......my guess would be one of your aftermarket add on's.
That's usually the case.

I think it started before I put the deflector on. I noticed it from day-1, and it sounds like it's coming from high on the windshield, so I'm hoping it's the crossbars.
I'll check them and, if they're ok, I'll pull the deflector.

Wind & Road Noise - 2011 T4R SR5

Looking for some help & guidance

I have a 2011 Toyota 4Runner SR5. When I driver faster than 45 mph, I notice considerable wind and road noise in the cabin. The noise is distracting. The noise makes it difficult to hear the person sitting next to me.

People have recommended replacing the weather stripping. Will this reduce wind and road noise?

• How do I know I need to replace the weather stripping?
  
  
• Do I want to replace the weather stripping on the door or on the body of the vehicle?

Background:

Safelight recently replaced my windshield. This has reduced the noise, but it did not eliminate it (apparently, the seal on the original windshield had some gaps; the gaps allowed air to pass, which created noise).

I notice the noise when I sit in the driver's seat and when I sit in the front passenger's seat ("shotgun").

I bought the car in fall 2013. I purchased a Toyota Certified Pre-owned vehicle. I purchased the vehicle with 45,000 miles.

Today, the vehicle has ~85,000 miles.

Has it always had the noise? Is your rear window all the way up? I find the vehicle very easy to speak with passengers at speeds well in excess 45 mph.

My old 4th gen developed a loud humming noise only at certain high speeds and wind directions. My problem was the rubber molding on the roof that goes down to the windshield. There was some gaps in the rubber. I took black silicone to fill the gaps and the noise disappeared. My 5th gen has the same molding (in line with the roof rack rails). It may be worth taking a look at this.

Thanks, I check the crossbars. Other than that, I'm thinking the windshield seal.

Just take some painters tape and run some across the top of the windshield. If it goes away, it's the seal. Try each part of the windshield separately. (top, right side, left side) to narrow down the location.

You can also do the same over the top of the wind deflector. run some tape across the gap.

Was just gonna suggest this! Did this with the wife's van, used some vinyl in the same color as her van and the noise went away for about a year. Need to replace it once a year, as it falls apart where its not stuck to anything underneath.

The whistling happened also with my '05 tacoma, its always the upper edge of the windshield, the gap is just right for it to whistle at higher speeds.
