Hi all, i have a 1992 4runner, and ive been having issues with the driver door window controls. i can roll down my rear driver window, but i cant roll it up with the drivers controls. I have to use the rear door controls. Also sometimes my passenger window wont work at all from driver control, so i have to use the passenger control to go up or down. Also my door light on that door wont light up, and the lights inside the window controls wont light up. Any ideas on what it is?

I'm interested in the responses here as well. I have a similar issue, the drivers side window has a complete mind of it's own and sometimes it will not work. I've noticed if I close the door hard, sometimes it can affect it.

And umm..... there's supposed to be lights on the window controls? And what door lights are you referring to? Are they courtesy lights beneath the door frame? I'm literally in the dark here lol!! Although our model years are quite different.

sounds like its most likely an electrical issue maybe a bad switch or might have pinched a wire in the door so its partially broken and not getting all of the juice it needs but id start with the switches if they are all the same from door to door than swap them and see if the problem follows the switch or not

He's right more than likley the contacts are plum worn out. A good rule of thumb is if you can't read the lettering it's probably on its way out.

lol, yes the light controls are supposed to light up for at night. so you can see the lettering, and yes. the courtesy lights.
thanks to all the other responses! i guess this weekend ill tear into the driver door and see whats up :thanks:

Check the wiring between the chassis and the door. I had some electric lock problems and the wires were worn there and causing the problem.

Well that explains a lot...all the switches in the cab of my '91 have no labels anymore including the clutch start cancel. The only reason I know what cruise control buttons to press is because I remember what they used to say lol.

The cruse in my 85 works when it wants to and I know that it's just the contacts are worn out but, trying to find a 29 year old switch in good condition is kind of impossible.

For sure:thumb:

My back window switches work for the window to go down but not up. Have to use the driver controls. It doesn't bother me too much because I got limo tint over stock on the back and limo up front too so I dont roll the windows down too much...
