Window tint decisions??

Getting my windows tinted here in a few days and my plan is to go with 20% on the front two windows and 35% over the rear factory stained glass.

My question is does anyone think the front windows with 20% will be darker than the rear with 35% over the factory tint?....My goal is to avoid the front windows looking darker than the rear. Thanks!

If the legal limit in your state is 35%, then I would tint the entire rig 35% .. Because in the end, the rear will always look darker due to the factory tint being darker back there anyway. Just my 2 cents.

I'll chime in. If you want to avoid that your going to have to go darker. Darker than the legal percentage. Have your truck wrapped in 15%, if you notice any difference add maybe 35% to the fronts.

True, I was just having him do 35% all over, That way, he would avoid a redo, or having to get layers... I guess the best thing would be to get members to post pictures and % numbers. So the OP can get a real sense of what it would look like...

That would be a good idea for others to post what theirs looks like. I know layers would definitely be a PITA for someone interested in doing a simple tint job. I really wish they would throw factory tint on the front two windows as well. That could save hundreds of dollars in trying to match.

Yeah, legal here is 35% on the front. I've seen some with 35% all over both front and back and it looks good, just looking to get the fronts alil bit darker than 35%. The place I'm getting it done at only offers 5, 15, 20, 35. So that's why I was curious about the 20 on the front. Thanks for the input!!

I'll probably just get them to hold it up to the truck and compare once I'm there and then make my decision.

I have this exact tint setup I can post pictures later. The front windows are not darker it is pretty even but the back are darker.

Yeah I don't think you'll be able to notice that big of a difference from the outside. On the inside the fronts will almost always look lighter. I had a white nissan xterra at one point and got 20% added to the fronts. It looked so good people thought I had 10% on the whole truck.

By my est. math, 35% over the factory (~28%) would put you at ~10%.

aaronfro17's suggestion sounds like it would be pretty close to equal.
Suggest you check your local laws for compliance.

I know vehicles differ but this is my wife's MK3 Focus with 20% all around and even then your fronts will appear lighter due to the light coming through your windshield. I had the sunroof and the back window tinted at 15% and with with that tint laid over the factory tint on the sunroof it is really dark but really cuts down on the heat coming through so if you have a sunroof I recommend looking into it.

in any vehicle regardless if it came with factory tint or not, the rear will always look darker than the front. Why? the light comes thru the windshield and lights up the inside.

5% or bust! :fro:

Correct, the way i figure it. You going to get a ticket regardless. get the most privacy.

I only did the front with 3M 20%. Matches the stock rears pretty well.

Correct, 3m/LLUmar/Johnson films make a 20% charcoal that matches well. There are many brands out there that make a 20% that does not match well.

you cant guestimate on tint. 35% over the FACTORY 20%, gets you down to the 15% area. No way as dark as a real 10% film. in all my years, i have not tested it but from the look of the eyes. 35 over factory 20 is about a 15-18. not much

did this vehicle come with factory rear tint so it would be a good comparison?

tinting the sunroof also is prone to peeling since its in direct sunlight.

I personally have 5% on fronts and 5% over factory rears and a 5% front tint strip band across the windshield. I also have a dark grey interior. dont know if all runners came in grey or were there variations. tan will make it lighter looking also.

see my fronts? you can still see thru them with 5%

cops dont bother suv owners much about tint, in my area

Sorry it was dark when I got off work tonight and it's cloudy today but here are the pics. 20% up front and 35% over the factory rear tint.

How well can you see tinting over the factory tint in the rears? You suggest 32/35 would you go darker? Why did you tint over factory tint?

Just my 2 cts but 20% over factory rear is good most can't see in , but any more over front & you can't see at night , old truck I went with limo tint 100% f-n almost ran over a guy n a cross walk & I looked twice !

I've never had a sunroof peel and these were on cars Ive owned for 10 years or more and my sunroof on my Runner has been tinted since 2005 and zero signs of any problems with my tint but if it did the tint place will fix it.
