Window tint issue with car audio shop.. Need advice. (Long)

They are a joke.

The peeling started before I rolled any of the windows down. I'm going to put pictures of the damage and the listings for the new parts in a manilla envelope along with a letter I drafted up. I'm going to blow these guys up.

Jack

In the letter, stick to facts, be firm & polite at the same time, and be as concise as possible. When you're frustrated, it's tempting to want to make things personal and "blow things up". But that usually doesn't help. "Blow them up" with diplomacy and facts. The pen is mightier than the sword.

from the look of the rear window tint, it seem that the installer didn't notice that the rear window could be roll down, but either way its a bad job.

This, exactly.

The place that tinted my windows used a computerized system that cut the film for my windows. The edges are perfect! Any real tint shop, I would think, would have one. Sorry about the bad experience, we all live and learn. And yes, stick to the facts in your letter and be polite. You will come out better in the end even if you have to take it to court. Did you pay cash or check or credit card? If check or credit card you can stop payment and dispute the charges.

a true professional tinter do not use any cutting machine, all done by hand, the guy who did mines, cut the tint to size of the window, then trim off by hand on his work station window, so precise that u can see its all even everywhere upon installation.

My friend was pissed too but he couldn't do anything about it. And the place is run by a Russian family. The guys that worked in car audio were awesome. They worked really professional and that side of their business is great. But they're tint guy sucked ass and now I gotta find out what to do cause the way I see it they owe me around $300.

Your money is gone. Don't waste your time or else you will have Ivan, Ivan, and Ivan showing up at your door with baseball bats. Move on, lesson learned.

hahaha

So you're asking for more money back than you spent on the tint job?

It's because the Russian Mexican (mother was a Russian mail-order bride, father was a Mexican gardener) window tinter damaged his door panel (see first pic of first post) the extra money will help cover replacement of that.

EDIT: I guess I was too slow, knights beat me too it.

I know why he wants more money, I just can't see a shop willingly refunding MORE than the money that he paid. That was all I was questioning.

If they damaged his 4Runner, then they are legally responsible for the damages. Thus more money than he paid. I think the damages are a lot more than what he is asking, they would come out ahead just to pay that. If not small claims court!

I've just never heard of a shop giving back more for a refund than the customer originally paid. I hope for his sake he gets it, but I have my doubts

Wow. $280 to tint the whole car? I would have said no right then and there.

I'll assume you didnt pay with a credit card, but if you did file a dispute.

Knightsfs4, sorry to read about the horrible tint job, but thank you for posting your experience. We can all learn from it.

You don't get why I'd ask for more than the tint job? Hypothetically, I buy a $100 radio. They go to install it and crack my dashboard. A new dashboard is $700. Wouldn't I ask for $700?

I just wanted to get this story out there so at least you guys know to never go there. I already wrote out a full page paper detailing what I'm asking for, etc... If they decide not to refund my money I'm going on Facebook, Angie's List, Google Reviews, and any other place where I can leave a review about their business and I'm saying what happened. Then a couple weeks down the road I'll print off all of the reviews and send em over. They'll realize that they screwed up and that I cost them business. Customer service is a big thing these days. I hope they do me right, but if not I hope I cost them as much business as I possibly can.

Then maybe court, we'll see :thumb3:

I didn't even notice the damage to the door panel until now. Wow, I'd be more pissed about the damage than the horrible tint job. My guess is that a door panel isn't cheap and I don't understand how they melted it in the first place. Good luck!

I never said I didn't understand WHY you were asking for more money, just that I don't expect that the shop would willingly hand out the money plus more than what you paid. I foresee this going to small claims
