Window tint

sn0wrunner, nice thanks for the info i hope i end up either in montana, idaho, or colorado they are the coolest states ive ever visited.

So do you guys think I would get a pretty good match with 3M 20% charcoal? Really I am curious about the charcoal part. The owner of the place I stopped by seemed to think my windows looked a little bronze. I think she would have used a bronze tint but they only do charcoal. They didn't have 15% tint as an option.

I did stop by the place that did my last two cars but they strangely were closed...might try again tomorrow.

At $60 a window I want to try and get a good match the first time...especially since I am going to drop $850 on tires this week and another $900 or so to fix my bumper and rear quarter panel.

wow $60 a window is that the base price for all windows or just fronts? my guy that does it gets 75 for both fronts and 210 to do all but windsheild. just wondering and that is general price from most guys in my area

Not sure if that price applies to the other windows. She told me $60 a window for the two fronts. Is that $210 for a runner (7 windows) or a 4 door car or a 2 door? I think I paid around $230 for my old Camry (5 windows)...at a different shop. Sounds like I should try some other places.

ya it was that red 95 runner that i posted a pic of earlier in the post all 7 big ones and the two little triangle rear side ones 9 in all. and he split it up on the 5% and 20 %up front. but my buddys girls 04 grand prix all sides, back and sunroof was a pain in the ***. only $200 all fronts are $75 and windshield brows $35

THE 3M 20% charcoal is what I have.
It is not dark. When the sun hit it, you see right through.
SUX!
I need a true 15% dark 3M or Llamar.

Don't go with the bronze.

$60 per window seems steep. I got both mine done for that much.

I also only paid $20 for my brow.

Post some pictures when you get it done.

WHEW!

Yeah $60 a window is horribly expensive.
If I were a shop I would do $25 - 30 per window since now all you have to do is buy a plotter and precut the tint.
SO COST EFFECTIVE!!

The guy that does mine lays the tint on and cuts it by hand. Talk about some major profit.

^Same here. He seems to do a good job too.

I bet those plotters are expensive.

I tried 3 more places today, one is out of business, one wanted $179, the other is $110. The 110 is the place that did my last 2 cars and the guy seems pretty knowledgeable. He was saying my windows (w/o looking at them) are 20% and to match he would put 26% since the fronts already have 4% or something like that.

I talked a little more with him and then he said 20% would be a better match on the outside, but the fronts would look darker than the others from the inside. I just want it to look good from the outside. I am getting them done this afternoon so I have a couple hours to decide. They had 26%, 22%, 20% maybe 18% and 15%. Don't know the brand but he did say 'platinum'. I will likely go 20, but am tempted to go lower looking at snowrunner's pic on page 3 with 15% although trd4's looks like a good match also at 20%. I'll post some pics if I can get some good ones...supposed to snow today.

This shop sounds crazy. I don't even think they make that % of tint. I've only heard of numbers such as 35%, 20%, 15%, 5%.

Is it $110 for just your fronts?

Agree...
I have never seen that percent of tint before.

Yeah it's $110 just for the fronts :( Oh well. That doesn't bother me that much if it meets my expectations.

As for the tint %'s. He has a display...4 columns wide, probably 7-8 tints per column. I'll take a pic of the display while I am there.

$110 just for the fronts is high.

I paid $35 per glass (except the windshield of course).

I'm sure it will turn out good though.

Have you used this before ambush or just putting it up for informational purposes? That's pretty cheap. I've never tinted before though.

The shop had to cancel my appointment so I may make some more calls since everyone thinks $110 is pretty spendy. I did find one place for $90 but the guy on the phone seemed kind like a punk telling me it was illegal and how I would definitely get pulled over. A very negative tone in his voice...crabby. I think the midwest just doesn't have enough competition in the market.

TN4R I would love 5% but don't think cops would let that fly...I am jealous...
