window tint

gah thats too dark for my tastes and its begging to be ticketed if I drove that through the DC Metro area..
It looks darker than it really is....I have experienced no visibility problems from inside the vehicle over the standard tint levels.....even in the dead of night....
To each his own....I prefer my cars dark enough so that no one can see inside them. I didn't like my last 4runner with 20% tint because you could still see inside to the vehicle contents.
I don't know a single person who has ever been ticketed for their windows. Of course, now that I have said that, I have just given myself the kiss of death...

Great thread and the pictures of the different tints really help. I'm setup to have mine done, by the "best guy in town" for $190. I'm getting the fronts done at 20% and the rest will be at 5% using the "best" titanium tint. I live in Missouri and they allow 35% fronts and any amount you want for the other window's. I figure that if I'm stopped that I would roll down the window before the officer approached the 4runner and the fact that the backs are going to be 5% and the fronts 20% gives the impression that there is a difference between the fronts and the back (enough to be legal). I understand that the Police want to be safe and see the driver when they approach a vehicle. I was a LEO and I know if the window is down and I can see the driver and then look into the car I will be OK. Now I will just have to train my wife that if she gets stopped to roll the window down before the officer approaches.

Is Mass the only state that actually CHECKS your vehicle's aftermarket tint job EVERY year???
I can't away with 1% more than what's legal out here because our vehicles need to get an inspection sticker EVERY single year...
...so when I pull into the bay once a year, Mr.inspectiondude sees tint on the front windows, asks me to roll them down about 6", and drops his neat little device over the top of the window which tells him EXACTLY what percentage that the window is tinted. Anything over the legal limit and WHAMO!.... I get a REJECTION sticker planted on my windshield, along with a 90 day period to remove the tint or I am liable to lose my priviledge to drive the car if the cop sees the R sticker on my windshield after that time. Taxachusetts SUX.

There are two (maybe more) kinds of tinting film. One with a metal material that does not fade over time and block UV, and one that is just plastic and may turn purple over time. The metal flavor is the way to go.
For those of you that know what I'm talking about, and have had tint added to either rear window covering the antennas, have you had any issues with reception. I guess AM would be most noticable as it requires an antenna more so than FM. The metal flavor is the one I'm worried about.

ARE YOU SERIOUS ?!:awais: i got my front 2 done 35% and didnt touch the rear and it was $120, i didnt even bother to ask how much to do your set up, im going to eventually do that but i have to get the runner in my name first. another thing, if your windows are illegally tinted, some Exxons dont have light meters to measure tint so yes, ive talked to inspectors myself and they said if i rolled in the bay with my windows down, they cant touch the condition of the vehicles windows so they cant turn it on and roll them up to check, theres no reason with out a light meter. and yea when you get pulled over roll down your window and turn on the inside dome light, if at night, to make your interior completly visible to the cop

You can believe whatever they "say" if that makes you feel good, but as soon as you roll into the bay, they have a checklist of EVERYTHING that is supposed to be checked and recorded in P/F fashion. If they want to check window tint and both your windows are rolled down, they'll ask you to roll them up. Easy as that. Just the same if you have a blinker out, they have to ask you to turn on both blinkers so they can check their operation. Furthermore, I wouldn't even risk getting my front ones tinted illegally because, in the even that I get a REJECTION sticker, I have to go back to the SAME location and to get it rechecked, so it's not like I can try to go fool someone else now. Even if you "know someone", it's no guarantee because what if your friend doesn't work at the local Exxon the following year? You're screwed....
It's not worth it in Mass, unfortunately. I wish I could go dark. Damn, 1 mile south and I'd be in CT.
