Window Tinting in Chicago

So here is my situation, i want to get a tint on my front windows to match the rear windows. i have heard from other threads that it should be around 20%. I know Illinois doesn't allow any tint on the front windows, but does anyone in the Chicago Area know if the chicago cops really care?

It's illegal in illinois to tint the front windows, clear to dark.

My brother inlaw is a chicago cop i asked him if i can put just a light tint, he said cops will stop me for it.

I'm in Arlington Heights, and they stopped me for my tinted windows. No ticket, but I had to promise to remove the tint.
 
i got the tint. got pulled over in chicago 2 weeks ago, got a speeding ticket but no ticket for tints.

if your a dick to the cop he'll be a dick to you thats how it works
 
Hey Boss, not necessarily, sometimes a cop can dick up all on his own. Sometimes, it's just the luck of the draw or whether the monthly quota is coming up.
 
i guess so flange!

when i got pulled over i knew i couldnt give the cop time to think about anything. so my hand was hanging out the window with my liscnese and insurance card while he was walking towards my car.

i say just do it. whats the worst that could happen? youll be down $60 for the tint when you remove it.
 
It's also illegal in Cali but cops won't stop you for just the tints. Same goes for the front plates, it's illegal to not have them on but people still dont put them on.

Here I think you'll just get a shopping list of violations ONCE you are caught for speeding. Otherwise, the cops won't even bother to pull you over for little things. :D

Good point... i dont have a front license plate either, and thats technically illeagal, so ill do it when i have the time. Does anyone know a good place to get a 20% tint done in Chicago?

just found my recept like 15 min ago. thunder auto glass (mobile service) 630 860 0999 dont pay more than $60 for both doors

window tinting is sesonal they wont do it until april or may because its too cold and the solution between the tint and the glass wont be able to dry. it could freeze and bubble too.
 
seasonal?...really?...arent most garages heated...so the workers dont freeze to death?...shouldnt the amount of time for the tint to set be relatively short?...i dont know much about the process...but i am lookin into doin it after the holidays...just tryin to get some info on tinting in general...

I tried to do a link but it wouldn't let me for some reason. They do excellent work but seemed a bit pricey last time I got a quote from them. However the side windows is a pretty straight foward job so I guess it wouldn't hurt to check them out. They are in Schaumburg. If you get a quote from them let me know as I might have this done myself. Thanks Keith

this is a mobile service that does it in your garage, or where ever you want them to do it
 
Im in Deerfield/Highland park and I agree with flange and boss, it all depends on the cop. Some police say that as long as you can see the drivers face through the window your somewhat ok, maybe ive only talked to the cool cops. But if you live in the chicagoland area you know that there are people who have everything blacked out. you're pretty much rolling the dice everytime you drive if you have dark tints.
 
if your car is parked...and a cop sees the tint is too dark...can they write a ticket without u beein there?...so when u come outta the grocery store u find a little surprise?...i am a bouncer at a club in downtown denver...and cops are always around...dont wanna be gettin a ticket every week...

call your local police dept and ask. tell them to check the books

$80 for 20% on the front two windows (to match the back ones), and around 280 for the whole SUV.
 
i've found that in virginia atleast (legal limit is 50% on front windows and i have 35%) that if you roll your windows down when you are pulled over then you are fine. after all remember the tint laws are in place to protect the officer as well so if you roll down the window and they dont feel threatened you should be fine.
