Window Visors

Hi all.. I bought a pair of tape on window visors awhile back but have neglected to put them on during the cold weather. Now I'm reconsidering all together because I dont want to use the tape.. I'd be picking up the in-channel kind but i hear from my dealer they have seen lots of window problems occurring with those.. I wonder if my dealer is a nay sayer to in-channel types only because they stock tape-on visors, or if they truly only sell parts they believe in. I'm definitely not an A/C kinda guy so my windows will be going up and down all year long (had an explorer for 10 years and turned the A/C on once while i was on a date) .. if any ones going to burn a motor from regular use it will be me.
Please weigh in with some Pros & Cons.. have any of you had problems with either type of visor?

I had weather tech in-channel vent visors in my 4th gen 4runner for about 5 years never had a problem I also have in-channel visors on my 5th gen no problems as of yet.

Ditto, weather tech with my exploder(s) for many years, but since weather tech did not make the inchannel for my 5th TR4, I went with another manufacturer and so far (Since Jan) no problems to date. I forgot who made my current visors, but although they seem OK and work so far, they were not the same quality (thickness of plastic) as my past purchases of weather tech products. I have not checked recently, maybe weather tech is now offering wind visors for the 5th. If they do, I would give them serious consideration.
 
Hey guys I installed some EGR in channel visors today and found out that the truck has "jam protection" windows. How did yall overcome the jam sensor'

:withstupid: Bought some a couple of months ago and ran into that; haven't had time to get back to it though - just put them back in the package. Some advice would be good.

Notwithstanding my post above, I have run into the same problem now in the summer heat. But it only happens with one window, the passenger side rear.
And it does not happen all the time. I have the Wade window visors.

If that window activates the Jam Control, to get around it, I simply raise the window as close to the top as possible, then I tap the switch multiple times until the window closes all the way without activating the jam control. PIA, but it works.
 
I talked to WeatherTech last week and they told me the 5th gen in channel visors will be another 9-12 weeks.
 
I bought EGR visors, have em on my yota also. I'm sure weathertech makes good stuff but my EGRs have held up great.

Do you have the in-channel and are they activating the Jam Protection sensor in any of the windows? I have seen other EGR visors and I think they are par with Weather Tech as to quality, but those wades are pretty thin. They work, but....and if the EGR's are built in such a way that they will not interfere with the window operations, and still be in channel, then I think I will replace. Looking forward to your reply. Thanks in advance and be safe.
 
I did have trouble at first, but now they are working fine. Maybe 1 out of 10 times the auto jam will activate on the passenger side though over time I think it will adjust itself more.
 
I had the in-channel version in my 4th gen. I never really had any problems but the windows definately do shut tight and take some time for them to adjust. My passenger windown, whe cracked open, did rattel quite a bit. More than it did prior to having them in. The wind noise will also increase as well, but not as much as those that tape on the outside. I was going to remove mine at one point but was affraid to with the stickiness in the channel and just could see my window pulling off the weather stripping when trying to put the window down. As much as I liked them I am opting now to put them on my new one. Good luck!
 
Since installing these I've learned, once you have em on and get the window all the way up hold the up button for 10sec to reset the safety. No more problems

So with the WeatherTech's not available yet, which in-channel are better? The Wade or the EGR? Or would the vote be for the WeatherTech stick on's? I will be ordering these within the week so any input is greatly appreciated!

I can't speak to the EGR's as I have not seen them yet, but the Wade's are pretty crappy as compared to the other Weathertech's I own on other vehicles. The Wade's work, but the plastic is much thinner and I have no faith that they would hold up to an impact from a rock or such at just about any speed. My Weathertechs are much thicker. Also, the Weathertechs I own are are in-channel, but use no 3m tape. They stay put without it. The Wades however, although in-channel, still have a small strip of 3m tape that attach's to felt/rubber backing inside the window channel. Which is better? Not sure, maybe the Wades will hold better with the tape if an impact occurs or the vehicle gets jostled a lot. That may be the only benefit of the Wade's. Hopes this help. Stay safe.
 
I got AVS from Sportsmans Guide. They are fairly thick, and they require tape to stay in the channel. ..at least, the front ones do; the back ones would have stayed. I drove around some last night and didn't notice any extra wind noise.

I noticed that after I fit them in and raised the window, the window had to "pop" past it to close. I decided to bevel the leading edge right where they collide. I used a sheet of 220 wet/dry, laid down on the table to keep a flat surface, just using my hand to keep the angle I wanted, taking it slow and checking every few seconds to make sure I didn't overdo it.

It seemed to help. I'll know better after they've sat in the heat and set into the rubber a little. I have them setting in right now.
