window wind deflectors

question on wind deflectors for the windows, i 've had my new 06 sport for about a month now and want the deflectors.....i ordered in a set that was to be installed in the window track....there just was not enough room for the window to close properly not to mention that the window wants to retract upon hitting the deflector..........so...anyone have any thoughts on the self stick type?....im not a fan of anything messing up my paint?......any thoughts would be appreciated...!!

The difficulty of installing them may also be based on what brand you bought as well. I've only delt with AVS's and I ran into the same problem. If they dont line up with the border of your window frame then they are not the correct deflectors for your car. What you should have done was to not peel the 3M adhesive and test fit them first. If they fit snug, then go ahead and peel and gently slide them up into place. After that, tap the window up button's to where they close all the way, inch by inch. "Do not hold the button!" Leave it like this overnight to let the 3M sticky tape adhear properly and also the rubber around the window frame needs to conform to the shape of the deflectors. It's like breaking into a pair of new work boots. Hope that helped.

Nick, thanks for the prompt reply, my problem was the wind deflectors that install by sliding them up into the window rubber channel. I believe i found the problem. It seems that in 2006 the window thickness was increased to reduce wind noise which would account for the lack of clearance needed. Hopefully this helps other owners. Concerning the stick on type i will look for the brand which you referenced, again, thanks , mark
 
I installed mine about 2 weeks ago from weathertech. I also have an 06. It was not that hard to install. Initially it was not closing on the driver side when auto was used. I have to do it slowly.

Then I noticed that the glass edge are dirty so I decided to take the deflectors out and cleaned the tracks with cotton buds. After that it went in smoothly but still not as smooth like before but more tolerable.

clem18, thanks for the reply, so you have the type that install by sliding them into the track? it could be the brand i recieved. do yours allow the window to close at least most of the way? i will look into thew brand you referenced. the ones i bought would not let the window even engage the begining of the rubber track. being an engineer type it appears the one i bought were just too thick to allow the window to close. thanks for the reply!! are you satisified? thanks, mark
 
I've had my in-channel deflectors in since I bought my 'o4. I have never had a problem. Did you help guide the window closed?? Push it along when it is on auto close.

My explaination was regarding the "in channel" visors. Mine came with sticky tape, I don't know about yours. Heres a pic for reference.

I've got the weathertech ones and love them.

I did have a few times when the window would want to go down. I found that once the deflectors got 'seated' the problem went away on it's own.

Try installing them on a warm day, so the plastic is a little more flexible, and I think that will help it seat better.

The front windows slides on the track and does not have sticky tape. The rear windows have sticky tapes. Yes, it closes all the way. I'm satisfied but I have to clean the tracks whenever I drive with the windows down.
 
I have a 3rd gen and sometimes, the window will not go up all the way w/ auto but it will go all the way when you don't use auto. Have you tried this?
