Windshield advice

Less than 1000 miles on a new rig, got a chip already. Going to try to have it repaired. No one open over the holidays though.

I think USAA insures in SC and AFAIK, he'll still need to get SC insurance if he is stationed there even if the car is still registered in CA.

I keep it registered in Texas. I think the comprehensive requirements in Texas are higher than in California so we pay that amount. Our deductible is 250 so we’ll probably get it replaced as it is creeping into my eye-line. Thank you guys very much for the advice!

I got a MASSIVE rock chip on the very first road trip with my new 2020. Less than 2k miles on it when it happened. It's on the passenger side and I'll be making a lot of mountain pass trips in bad weather over the next few months (they gravel the roads).

I'm going to leave it until it either leaks or cracks over to the driver side. It looks like shit (from the inside - wouldn't really notice it from the outside), but it's fairly harmless.

Not really- probably pretty high priced there, but you probably already know that.

My dad was a career Marine 21 years- so I grew up in all that- he retired when I was 15.
Lived at Camp Lejeune twice- in fact I was born there. Pensacola twice, Quantico and southern Cal when he was at El Toro before heading to Nam flying CH53's out of Marble Mtn.
We lost him last year at 88. :usa2:

Sorry for your loss 21 years is a long time. that's where I am now. Im still having a good time with it so im sticking around as long as they'll have me.

I have heard differing views on living there. I am hoping for the best. I have spent most of my career in California, but did my recruiting time in Tennessee and loved it, so hopefully there's some crossover there, also being from Texas should help.

You can do it. My wife did 26 years(most recently Quantico and the puzzle palace - aka Pentagon). She was going to retire at 21 but then got promoted.

If you have full coverage car insurance in South Carolina there is no deductible on windshield replacement.
So if you have to pay in CA I'd try to wait until SC. If you are military and don't register your 4R in SC that might not apply though.

I personally would change it, on the premise that the windshield is a safety item and a structural component of the vehicle.

My experience was somewhat similar, but in CA.

I would call insurance first… mine was taken care of with a small deductible. I also had OEM coverage on my policy, so it was replaced with a Toyota OEM glass.
