I bought my 2012 TE from a Dealer, Certified Pre Owned, and brought it back under warranty because the windshield wiper heater wasn't working. I could see the heating element was missing. The service rep was skeptical, but I pointed out that that feature was standard in 2012 (I had a brochure), and then we looked at the glass & realized it was not Toyota, but a replacement... the dealer did install a new windshield, without me making a fuss.
I would presume that all the 5th Gens have the wiper heater, so why would anyone make a windshield without the heating element? Trying to cheat someone who's not watching carefully when their windshield is replaced? I suppose if you're paying out of pocket and you're asked if you want to save $ by skipping the heating element, that's OK. I doubt that happens much.
Does the 5th Gen windshield glass fit other vehicles that don't have wiper heaters? I wouldn't think so, but I'm not sure.
