Windshield Sunshade ???

I purchased an "Altus Magic Shade" Sunshade for my windshield in order to protect the dashboard from UV rays and help keep the 4RUNNER cooler in the summer sun BUT the shade "ticked" me off. It says that it "pops open and folds instantly"; well it certainly "pops" open fast but folding it up is like solving a Rubick's Cube.

Does anyone know of a "good" shade that they would recommend? Talk to me guys.

Are these the 2 round/square style shades? If they are, I think the easiest way to fold em up is to hold the opposite corners and then twist and fold on top of eachother.

Those were a pain at first but are pretty cool after you figure it out :)

If they aren't then I dunno.... ;)

Btw, if they are.... they're great! Better than any other shades I've used in the past.

I ordered a seven-eight panel heat shade from Cabelas.com.

It is a silver reflector on the outside and a brown soft felt on the inside. It includes a nice pouch to store it in while folded.

It was something like $39 and they had to order it from the factory direct, each sunshade is custom fit for each vehicle.

sorry for the long link, goto cabelas, goto automobile/ATV, goto heat shield.

Very nice and worth the expensive price.

Link doesn't work.

jharris, you roll them up and stuff them into that bag on the front page..it's probably 2 feet long and i just leave it in the back seat or cargo area if i have passengers..i like them because not only do they cover the windshield but they fit like gloves over driver and passenger windows to keep your seat cool so your ass isn't on FIRE in the summertime....i can take pics if you want anything specific that's not on the page...

edit: i meant to say they have shades for your driver and passenger WINDOWs..not the seats...hahahah

Thanks - the description is enough.

Woodbert, let me know where I can get those shades.
Do they fold up nicely for storage?

Cee Bailey's 4th Gen Runner windowshades

THey really keep the interior cool and dark when you use the windshield and the side front window covers.

I just leave mine flat and throw them in the cargo area. They don't fold up into a small package but very functional in the heat and sun here.

I looked at all the links for the one I own is a pain in the butt: it's too big for the 4 Runner if you can believe that. Anyway, I like the one that comes in 4 pieces, but I do not like how it comes in pieces. That looks so inconvenient, so I went with the Carbella. They gave me an ETA of delivery of 3 to 4 weeks which is just in time for the season.

There have been many new members sign up since this thread first went around, so I thought I'd bring it back.

I'm glad to hear that the Cee Bailey's fit nicely for others. I did the measuring for the 4th Gens, thankfully they fit great. Also, that's my 4Runner on the front page of www.autosunshields.com. /shameless plug. :D And no, I'm in no way affiliated with this company.

Keep those interiors looking nice, use some kind of sun shade, whether it be from Cee Bailey or somewhere else. It's amazing how much these nicer ones keep the heat out.

Since you're bringing this thread back to life, I'll throw out a suggestion. I recently purchased a lightly used 2001 4Runner and it came with Eclipse Sun Shades already installed. At first I thought they were a little corney but I really like using them now because they are so easy to use and don't have to be stored when not in use.

The shade consists of two pieces, one installed on each side of the vehicle and adhered to the windshield. They pull out in an accordion style and meet in the middle where they stick together with velcro. You just pull them apart and let them fly and they retract automatically. Very cool item. I wouldn't use a sun shade otherwise because of the hassle of deploying it and then storing it once again.

Check them out (this is just a site that sells them but I don't know anything about this site):

As far as I can tell, the two pieces are glued to the windshield in much the same manner as a rearview mirror wedge mount. There are two mounting points per side and they are probably about 1/2" x 2" in size. The site states that they can be easily removed from the vehicle but I've never tried it so I can't comment personally.

I have been using the Carbella customized model, and it's great; easy open and close, and nice leather case to store it in which you can easily choose not to use.
