Windshield Tint

I'm going to tint my all my windows and I've decided on 20% on every window, but I'm not sure if that's such a good idea on the windshield. I like how the tint blocks out the UV rays but 20% just seems a little too dark for the windshield. Also, even with my tint exemption, it's still illegal to tint it past the top 6" of the windshield. I have 50% on my side windows right now and they block the UV rays pretty well for being so light. I have problems with glare at night from oncoming headlights, and since I can't wear sunglasses at night, I want something that significantly cuts down on the glare but is also light enough so that it'll pass when I go to get my vehicle inspection done EVERY year. The legal limit for side windows in Louisiana is 40%. I can tint the back windows as dark as I want, but no tint on the windshield past the top 6 inches. Any suggestions percentage wise?

20% on the sides then dark as you want on the windshield just don't go below the top 6 inches.

I would recommend 50% on the front windshield, maybe 35% max if your vision is very good.

I have 5% on all the side and rear windows and 35% on the front windshield, but I'm used to it. I've had 20% on the front windshield in previous vehicles, and it's just way too hard to see at night, throw in a little rain or snow and it drops your visibility drastically.

Even with 50% on the front windshield it cuts down on the uv rays.

thanks guys. A friend of mine has limo tint on all his windows, with the windshield being like 35% or 20%. I can't even see into there in DIRECT SUNLIGHT, and its like cave in there. I don't know how his truck passes inspection every year. He must slip inspection dude a 20...

Tint it as dark as the legal tint is, that sun is hot

The windsheild tint at 50% isn't likely to be caught by inspection or police. If they ask tell them its because of the tint on the rest of the truck as to why its so dark. The 50% will make night driving harder. 50% is no joke on a windsheild, I have it on both my cars and it's dark at night. Upgrade to HID's if you haven't.

Depending upon your state law's it's probably illegal to have your windows tinted on the front of your vehicle. Call the cops in your area and ask to speak some someone who deals with those laws.

I have 70% on my front window, it's UV blocking, but gets the needed visibility that going darker destroys.

I've made up my mind. I'm going to get a tint exemption from the state because I'm a musician and I transport a very expensive instrument and equipment around all the time and I don't want it getting stolen. It's legit, I promise! So with that, I can pass inspection every year and when the cops pull me over, I can shove that in their face. If my exemption comes thru, then I'm getting 5% on the front windows, 20% over the backs so that they match the fronts at around 4% and then 50% on the windshield b/c even with the security exemption, tinting the whole windshield is illegal unless you have the medical exemption. I have 50% on my front sides right now and it blocks a lot of the heat and UV's it's good stuff. It's also so light that you can barely see it.

I called up the tint shop today and they quoted me $350 to tint the back sides and back window with 20%, the fronts 5%, and the windshield 50%. Am I getting ripped off?

$350 is not bad considering they are doing all the windows (including the windshield). I'd say that's a fair price. If there are other tint shops close you could always call them up and shop around.

Also, they said that they use Global window film and I guess that is a good tint because the previous owner must have gotten their windows tinted with Global because there is a sticker with the same tint shop that I called on my window. Thanks!

Not sure I can help you with your tint question, but I too had issues with glare at night and day. My optometrist turned me onto these new lenses.

Defiantly check on the laws in your state, tinting the windshield other than a small strip at the top is illegal in most. Also in some (like here in MD) it varys depending on if it's a car/truck/suv.
Legal disclaimers aside, $350 isn't too bad depending on the grade of the tint.
