Windshield tint

I've been meaning to take pics of my windshield but never think of it when 4runner is clean. Had great weather yesterday and gave it a good washing before pics.

Hope you guys like it - it's only 35% tint on the entire windshield. Not enough to black it out but enough that it looks good. BTW - it does not affect nighttime vision at all. I think its awesome and totally worth it.

As soon as I can figure out which slider to go with, I hope to get a level lift on there as well.

Did you only tint the front doors with the 20% film? If so, how does it match up with the rest of the windows with the factory tint?

The windshield looks awesome too. How's the visibility at night?

Pouring rain at night is when front tint sucks.

I've driven at 5 mph with my highbeams on and wipers CRANKING and still couldn't see jack.

Why on earth would you tint your windshield? That's like driving with two pirate eyepatches on. If you ever get into an accident, don't expect your insurance company to cover it. You could be seriously liable if you end up hitting something or someone. I don't think the cosmetics of a vehicle are worth it when it creates a serious safety hazard.

Yeah but if anyone ever gets in an accident they will love him. If they notice it's tinted, he can very easily get 100% of the blame pinned on him. :bigok:

totally agree with Josh here, it may look really cool but it could have some serious consequences down the road...

having front window tint is bad enough if the cop wants to stop you, but if you tint your front winshield, thats just asking for it in so cal...

to each their own though.

What do you think about people that have their other windows tinted past the legal limit? lets say.....double limo or somthing along those lines. would you say there's a difference between hitting someone or pulling out in front of them? Could insurance company's say something about that?

Even if that did have any effect, if you hit someone that pulled out in front of you, good luck trying to get them to take the fall. It's similar trying to pin the blame on someone in front if you if they needed to slam on their brakes, and you hit them from behind. Either way, as I mentioned in other posts, if you are a responsible driver, and incorporate added caution into your driving habits to make up for lessened visibility, I don't see any harm. Your 20% would be just as susceptible to this theory as 5%.

FYI: It's double limo on the back, regular limo on the fronts. It's not hard to see out of, even at night unless I am backing up into a spot that has no lighting near by. But then that has more to do with the rear windows, and not the front.

Legal issues put aside, I think it looks good on his truck, and a way to darken his windows without going darker than 20% on the sides. Personally, I think it's his truck, so he can to what he pleases. Obviously I took that ideology with my window tint.

before this starts going the wrong direction, I should mention that I checked with my insurance agent prior to having the windshield done. She stated that she'd already been asked by others regarding tinted windshields - it is apparently more common than you would think as people get it done for "medical reasons." No prescription/special permission/etc. is needed - imagine if more people were aware of this....

Her (my insurance agent) answer was basically if the tint is light enough then it poses no risk. She added that blacked out windows poses a much higher risk to traffic due to the decreased ability for the driver to see out. I think that's already quite obvious.

I've already mentioned that the tint I went with is light enough that it's noticable but does not darken it thoroughly. It does not change the outward view in any way - whether in rain, snow, darkness or in broad daylight. I'm not sure why 808BMW had problems with rain - the tint doesn't even distort the vision like I originally thought it would.

My wife has even pointed out that there is significantly less glare. It does decrease your ability to see inside the cabin, which is pretty much the whole point. The whole reason of doing this originally anyway is so that I don't have to get the remaining windows done any darker than neccessary.

Anyway - like someone else mentioned: to each their own. The car is my wife's daily driver and she loves it. So long as she's happy - I'm happy. I just got lucky that I have a wife who likes the same kind of neat stuff that I do.

its actually illegal her in cali to tint the front windows and the windshield (not sure about Indiana). However, i have been driving with tinted windows for years and have never had a problem (always do the lightest possible in the front, can barely tell its there). Not to mention that because his windows are tinted in the back it make the front appear like it is darker than what it may really be (although 35% is kinda dark for the front, I go way lighter as not to be so obvious). Besides guys, have you forgotten, if he really had visibility issues in the rear he can just drop the rear window. Just thought I'd throw some spare change into this conversation :bigok:

The rest of your tint seems to be pretty light. My car had limo all around, and being in a car that dark with the front window tinted is a lot different than a 4runner with lots of windows to let light in.

Well what he was probably trying to say is, it's really hard to drive, at night, with pouring rain. Personally, I don't have front tint, but during the time I stayed in the Philippines, both my cars had 5% all around, BUT on the windshield just a visor tint... and with that setup I had a hard time at night when it was raining, cuz u can't see clearly around you.. Hence once I had to back up at night, and I had to roll down my windows to see my sidemirror.

I got 50% on my whole windshield. There is no way for a cop to tell if it is actually tinted unless they remove the whole windshild. The device they measure tint with has to clip on either side of the window to read it. And the only way you would be able to tell if someones windshield is tinted is if they told you and they look at it closely from the outside. You honestly cant tell from the inside, even at night. Additionally, it stops all UV rays so over time it saves your dash and front seats. I think it makes it look so much cleaner. weimar97, looks good. I love looking at mine from certain angles where you cant see in it at all.

Lets not get carried away regarding the liability in a car wreck.

If you are at-fault, then you are at-fault. Windsheild tint will likely have NO effect on who is liable.

If you rear end a drunk driver, guess what - YOU are at fault. Not the drunk person.

If someone rear ends you and you have windsheild tint, guess what - they are still at-fault.

Light windsheild tint is nice, keeps uv damage off your dash and helps to keep the vehicle cool. Someone driving around with limo on their windsheild is asking for it IMO.

Also, if you look on your windshield on the top left corner about a dollar bills length down from the top you will see a black line on the side of your windshield, that is as far down as you can go with windshield tent. Nothing farther than that. If your wife has a problem with the glare of oncoming vehicles at night, you can buy special sunglasses that help with that. I just don't see the reasoning for getting a ticket over something silly(MY OPINION), especially when you are forking out enough on gas.

The amount of tint on the front windshield varies state to state. In CA you can have a 4" strip at the top, but some states it is larger. Either way it is larger than a dollar bill, but still I see your point.
