Wiper blades for winter advice

I usually go through 1 set of wiper blades per year. In the past I've put on Anco winter blades ( for years). The are basically a regular wiper blade cover in rubber to keep snow and ice build up out of the hinges on the blades. They work ok , but when driving at freeway speeds they tend to lift off the windshield a little and dont clean very well.

Any suggestions for winter/snow blade's ?????

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm considering the Bosch blades. They look similar to the ones on Audi's, some Lexus and Toyota vehicles. Others here had good experience with the PIAA blades from Jason Burtman.

I used the Bosch on my Escape the last two winters and was very happy with them. I also have them on the Highlander. They do not lift off the windsheild at highway speeds.

I haven't driven the 4Runner through a winter yet.
 
You may want to consider Bosch Icon which uses a "bracketless" design and can be used year round.

I went and picked up a set of the Bosch Icons tonite. You need to get the one with the proper curve for the windshield. They have an A version and a B version. They looked it up and the 4R uses the A version .

420A ( 20") & 422A ( 22" )

I bought mine at Advanced Auto parts for around 18.00 each normally, BUT they have 25% off until end of the month .

I will review when I get them on and test in the winter and rain ect....

I've had great, great luck with the Piaa's. I love the rainx like coating built into the blades. I run them on every car now. Been selling them for about a year, and haven't sold one replacement set yet!

The PIAA was my next choice but the Bosch looked interesting because of the no hinge design for winter snow and ice not getting built up in there. Thats the only reason I tried them, otherwise it would have been the PIAA.
 
How do you install the PIAA's?? I just ordered a set from Jason.

I have had great success with teflon coated winter blades from "motomaster" (Canadian tire).

They currently have them on 2-for-1 rebate.

It is a basic wiper wrapped in rubber, and in this case, a teflon coated insert. They work because the pivot points don't freeze up. Also, they are a bit "taller" and marginally increase pressure to the windshield.

On the downside, they look ugly!

I put the Bosch Icon's on my wife's Accord about two months ago and they are great. The thing I am interested in seeing is how they do against snow. The thing is, these blades do not have the traditional metal frame that other blades do. When I pull up the wipers to wash her car, the blades bend down a lot. This is great for hugging the windshield but I wonder how it will do against heavier snow. As for rain, they are well worth the money (as long as they last) and they look pretty good on the car too.

Man, my wife has it all on her car. Yesterday I replied to a headlight thread regarding Silvania bulbs. Both replies started the same way......"my wife's car."

I gotta buy something for my 4Runner....
 
My Bosch Icons work really well in rain , but I am also waiting for a damn good snow fall to see how they perform.

Take to the stock windshield wiper blade. Make sure the arcs in the housing still gives you full range over your windsheild. ALso add a tablespoon of rain-X to your windshield wiper resovior, and you'll be set.

Visibility will increase forwards and looking back.

Don't waste your bucks on these expensive blades.

They were only about 2x as much as the Anco blades I normally buy. Stock ones or any open blade with hinges are terrible in winter snow conditions with them freezing up and ice build up.

I don't doubt they are good ( PIAA always make good stuff IMO ) and that was my next choice , but I always run winter blades because if the snow and ice build up and having to get out and bang them against the windshied to get the ice off. To fricken cold for that:D

I just though the Bosh Icons were worth a try , because the were locally available and 25% off and I had an Autozone gift cert. for an add'l $10 off.
 
I went with the Bosch icons as well. So far, I can tell you they have been great in the rain, including some driving this weekend in some pretty bad cross winds.

The two things that sold me were the lack of hinges and the spoiler-like curve on the blade. For me, ice and snow always started in the hinges and I always felt this was causing the blade to have less pressure on the window. No hinge, no ice buildup in hinge. As for the spoiler, it can only help keeping the blade on the window.

I will report back once I run into snow/ice.

What's the purpose of adding Rain-X and what Rain-X product would you be referring to.

What is the best windshield washer fluid to use.
