Wiper Problem

2002 4Runner 190,000 miles-
When using the wipers they will sometimes just freeze in a location. Mostly that is on the lower speed or on intermittent. When they freeze I just have to select high speed, then they move again.

Is it the wiper motor? Brushes? Bad switch? Suggestions appreciated.

It could only be two things. the switch or the motor.

To diagnose... Does the the wiper also stop when you have the switch on intermittent?

If it does then your wiper motor is probably dyeing.

To diagnose the switch. You will have to get the wiper to malfunction then open the hood and check for power at the wiper motor. The blue with black stripe should have 12 volts. If it doesn't, then the switch is bad, if it does, then the motor is bad.


FWIW, I have a wiper motor that I'll sell you for $25...

Yes, the wiper motor stops on intermittent. Flipping the switch to high speed gets it going again. Motor..... hard to change?
