Wipers Parking, then going up 6"

On interval, wipers would randomly do one pass or 3-4 passes. During idle, the wiper would come up about an inch. If I turned off the wiper during a pass, it would go home properly.

I replaced the stalk, same behavior.

So I replaced the motor with another motor out of my old rig that was good, and now the wipers go to the bottom where they should, then back up 6" when turned off or idle.

Unsure what to do next, I feel like maybe I messed up a spline - does it matter when you replace the motor, putting the splines back in the same position? Or do I take arms off and reposition?

I'm not sure how the wiper knows where the memory is, especially if it goes to the right position and then back up a bit.

Mine behave similarly. They barely work using the selective speed option (first click). When they do it'll kind of work but then go to a steady pass and then maybe back to the selective speed.
Really frustrating when it's not raining hard enough to use the steady pass and raining too much to just rotate the stock back and forth manually every few seconds.

If I have mine on the interval option and they do work, they will come back up a few inches after going down all the way, like yours.

I was guessing it's my motor that's going out, but after reading your post, I'm now curious if its a different issue.

You can see it not working and just going as regular steady pass (2nd click) and then change back to the selective speed pass with no interaction. Additionally, you can see it "bounce" back up a few inches instead of stopping at the bottom.

Yeah, you have to install everything in the 'parked' position. The position sensing is internal to the motor and has no knowledge of what is hooked up outside the motor.

Electrical issues like wiper behavior often come from switches, relays, or grounding problems. Safety training matters too, and many workers review a Forklift Certification Test 2026 before certification.

After replacing the motor, I still had issues... and it turns out the plug on the truck wiring harness side (2 x 2 pin) was bent and possibly had corrosion. It is fixed now. It turns out one of the 4 male pins in the 2x2 configuration was bent and not going into the female side on the motor. Fixing that fixed home. I can confirm, if you look through the rubber grommet bushing covering the motor mounted to the wiper, the motor only goes clockwise, so if it is not finding home, it is a bent or corroded contact with the pin on the motor. The other option some people fix is spraying contact cleaner on the copper contacts on the steering column, which I did and did not fix my issue.

I kind of figured this out later as I went, but even as I shifted by a few teeth on the sprocket, it still seemed to magically know where home was. and the weird thing about my issue is that the sweep was perfect, stopping/starting in the right place for a sweep motion, but stopping in the middle of the next sweep. As I posted just a moment ago, the issue turned out to be a bent pin on the motor electrical contact connection.

One other idea, since issue is mostly the first click - start with copper contact cleaner spray on the steering column or replace the switch and see if that makes a difference. From what I read, corrosion on the copper affects some wiper settings but not all, but that is more of a theory. Can also swap out the stalk.
