how well do these wire splice taps work?
and how well do they hold up over time?

I haven't used the ones you posted but the one below is what I've used for a few applications. They come in different sizes at radio shack. They work pretty well and I haven't had any complaints with them. I like them because you don't have to worry about soldering to use them. Hope that helps.

I use these all the time

I have seen that a lot of other members use them too.
No issues to date, cheap enough at home depot
