How would go about hard wiring/powering something like this?

I currently have this plugged into the 12v socket next to the shifter but I wanted to wire it somewhere below the steering wheel and have it come up the to right side in-between the driver seat and center console. Do I just cut off the cigarette lighter socket from the adapter and split the wire to the positive and negatives on the battery? Please help! I am no electrician but I'm trying to learn!

thanks so much!!

cut the cigarette lighter off, open the lighter adapter to see what size fuse is in it, buy a fuseholder & fuse (or reuse the one from the adapter).
Tap into your current cigarette lighter wire or other acc (only on when the car is on) wire or run it to battery for always on.

edit: negative usually has some stripe or flat edge, or you could use a test light, but I hooked mine up backwards & it didn't work so I reversed it; didn't seem to do any damage.

Just use a couple of those blue "wire splices" and use the existing wires that power your lighter plug in the console.

I used my dremell and cut a small round hole in the leading edge of the console box and mounted mine in the box using velcro.

Good Luck

I put something almost identical into my runner. Here's a link to the thread I created with pics.

I would note that I've since removed it. The double sided tape didn't stick as well as I'd hoped and I didn't like all the wires coming out of the center console. I was also worried about stuff getting into the sockets and creating a short given the way my wife throws things into the bucket.
