Wiring lightbar with independent harness & AOB switch?

So here's my predicament, I've purchased an OPT7 lightbar and have successfully installed everything (harness runs from the plug on the back side of the light bar down the inside channel of the A-Pillar into the engine bay, the relay and inline fuse are wired and the included switch has been run through the firewall) but my problem lies in replacing the original 3 prong toggle with a push button factory replacement from Air On Board.

The air on board switch has 4 wires (hot, switch, ground, ?) my objective here is to obviously have control over the light and dim the LED's on the switch using the dimmer function in the vehicle. I've look up some other tutorials and have had no such luck when trying to tap into the grey wire (signal) from the dimmer switch.

My problems are this, I have power to the switch and the LED's light up, but 1) no power or signal to the light bar and 2) no ability to dim the LED's on the switch.

My previous wiring experience entails screwing in light bulbs and I'm still 50/50 with those...

Someone please help.

Accessory(+)/ground(-) wire goes to your switch. A trigger (+) goes to your relay. I never tried to wire in the dimmer. If that doesn't help then check your relay.

It's important to know that the 4runner is negatively switched for dimming, so don't wire up the switch backwards or you may damage the ECM.

Thanks so much for the link and info. The switch and dimmer wires were reversed but no damage to the ecm thankfully. Light bar works but am stI'll tinkering with the dimmer function, hopefully we'll have that figured out soon.

I'm going to assume 3 wires coming from relay are 1) Hot lead (12 volt positive +), 2) Relay trigger wire (connecting hot lead to this wire would engage/trigger relay turning on light bar), 3) Ground wire (negative -) would be ground for illumination on switch when turned on. Wire is not needed when interfacing with AOB in this case.

AOB Switch Wires;
Black - Connect to gray factory wire (- dimming) outlined in link
Blue - Connect to green factory wire (+) outlined in link
Red - Connect to relay trigger wire (power out of switch to relay when switch is engaged/turned on)
Green - Connect to hot lead from relay (power into switch)

Holy Crap, dude you're a godsend! I'm rerouting all of those wires first thing in the A.M. when I have more ambient light to work with.

I was worried to death about the internal LED being illuminated all the time and not having the dimming function whatsoever.

How did you derive the information for these wires and why is this not on a sticky anywhere?!?!?!?

OP, sounds like you've got it covered now. I've got a wiring diagram sketch in my build thread from when I wired up my AOB switches. Works great. Good luck.

Yea... I just got done wiring a bunch of AOB switches a couple weeks back as well. The dimmer toyota dimmer works a little tricky, but wire the ground properly and you should be good to go.

Help, i am needing some help on my wiring... i have read the posts on here numerous times with no clear (for me) answer. This may sound quite dumb so i apologize in advance... 2014 LE, LED bar behind grill and AOB switch.

LED light Bar - no wiring harness, 2 wires (red and black) coming off bar,
black- chassis ground
red - 87 on relay

Relay
85 - chassis ground
87 - to the Red wire on LED
86 - to red wire on AOB switch
30 - straight to battery with inline fuse

AOB switch
Black - grey wire on 4Runner wiper warmer switch
Blue - green wire on 4Runner wiper warmer switch
Red - 86 on relay
Green - ?????

I do not want this switch incorporated with the high beams, i want the switch/LED only to work when the ignition is ON.

Everything i have read has described the high beam as a trigger, others have said the wire it up with out using the high beams but have not posted what they attached the green wire from the AOB switch to..

I did attach it to 30 on the relay temporarily, the light in the switch worked but worked when the ignition off, the LED also worked with the ignition off.

Can i find a switched ignition source and use that for the green wire on the AOB switch? any suggestions or help is 100% appreciated.

I just replied to your PM. You could connect AOB green wire to light green wire (I believe) of power outlet in center stack. Others have used fuse taps and tied into fuse panel.
