I would think if it's for personal use, you'd be okay since you aren't selling it for financial gain. They aren't going to spend money on a lawyer if there isn't money involved. That's the whole point to a patent troll, financial gain.
I agree that they wouldn't come after you because there is no money to be taken, I just don't know the legality if you're not doing it for profit. The Robin Hood of roof racks, if you will...lol

I was one of the last, if not the last, to get a WMW roof rack before this bs forced Josh to stop building them. If only you could build a case on the difference in welds alone. Not to mention exceptional customer service. I have a Gobi ladder, my roof rack looks like it was built by a pro, as it was, the welds are top notch. The ladder pales in comparison, but it does its job. No offense to anyone with a Gobi rack. I think this whole ordeal kind of hit a nerve with most T4R members. WMW provided a great product with top of the line craftsmanship and followed it up with personal communication to its customers. To me, all roof racks look like roof racks. Hopefully some good can come of this scenario.

I agree with the customer service comment, I called Josh a couple of years ago to inquire about a rack and he was very friendly and answered all my questions. I even asked if i could come by his place and he had no issues with that.

I will have to agree with you on that my good sir. Before I ever saw a rack done by Josh I was going to go the gobi rack path. But with their customer service lacking in wanting to help me and figure out their designs with my question I had I felt really mad I mean it's really easy questions that I was asking if you couldn't answer them why couldn't you provide someone who could and not give me crap and try using your big words that had nothing to do with my question. I mean I'm not a rocket scientist but I did graduate college with a bachelor's in engineering. Though I have to say Josh is a hell of a guy to know and I'm really lucky to live really close to him and finally met him in January. Pretty smart dude I have to admit. All I know is he has a passion of making some great racks. Maybe just maybe he will start back up again with another design if not maybe Josh and I can put our two heads together and come up with one.

Gobi responded to Baja's claim that they are trying knock out competition through frivolous law suits and things of that nature. And part of their claim is that they reached an "amicable" settlement with Josh from WMW and their proof of it is this article that they released after settled with josh.

Just disgusted by this whole thing. Normally i would not comment on this stuff, but anyone can read between the lines on this one.
Then the lawyers tell the two parties what to say and make up and play nice. Yeah, like Mr. Bidillo really cares how Josh's business and design does in the future... (so, your stuff better not look like my stuff...)

Right? I've got money to drop on a Gobi, but not if a WMW rack is imminently available.
I mean, playing devil's advocate, his rack really did look like theirs, but I'm glad it looks like there's a positive outcome! Would suck if Gobi was the only available option.

I like how GOBI makes the deal confidential and publicly says that WMW complimented them. Good job gobi, on patting yourself on the back for closing somebody's business. this says non-disclosure all over it and gobi can say what ever it wants.

I just sold my Gobi on this forum for $1,000 cash. It only took me a day to sell posting on THIS forum. Bottom line is Gobi makes a great product, it fits the vehicle like a glove and quality is top notch.
Has anyone seen the GB for Gobi recently? There were 113 orders! Gobi is not going anywhere, they are here to stay and this forum proves that. Every other 5th gen 4runner has a Gobi installed on this forum.
Many of you own Apple products and Apple sues people left and right for patent rights. So many of you should never own a Apple product due to this.
The bottom line is I buy what I like and what suits me and the vehicle best. I can care less of the politics going on in the background..
