I got a 92 SR5 4WD Manual 4Runner about a month and a half ago.

Its worked great up until now. I've had a few problems with the radio I put in but that seemed to be fixed. I go to start it the other day and the car won't start. You can hear the soleniod moving back and forth when you turn to igniton but nothing happens after that.

So I put in a new starter today and it worked for about 4 or 5 starts and nos its doing the same thing. When we took the old starter apart you could see where one of the contact plates was burnt away and what not.

Could the new one have gone out already? What can I try?

Thanks for your help.

Bet you bought it from a FLAP store (like Advanced Auto). They offer a lifetime warrant but its a pain removing and replacing to take advantage of that warranty. They appear to only fix what's wrong with returned cores --- not rebuild them -- so entirely possible it has failed already. I assume you battery is less than 5 years old and the terminals are shinny clean. If you still have your OEM one - replacing the contacts is simple, inexpensive job. There are several detailed writeup on line about doing it (so Google it).
