Hi everybody,

I just bought my 91 T4R a week ago. I'm kinda new to the 4x4 world and this is my first 4x4 car.

My car came withouth the owner's manual and i'm looking for a repair or workshop manual. What's the best to buy out there? I found several titles on Amazon, but didn't know what to choose.

My T4R has the 5 speed manual transmission with the V6 petrol engine, and i would appreciate if someone can tell me about known issues, porblems or things to look out for with this model, or point me to a website with such information.

One last question is about the car handling on wet tarmac. I have to say that I'm used to small cars with front wheel drive and during my first experience on wet tarmac, I had to switch to 4H for a stable driving. I had a lot of wheel spin even though the tyres are almost new (installed by the previous owner in January).

Here's a link to a 1993 Factory Service Manual. It should suffice for most all the work / troubleshooting that you need to do with your 91. The files are in separate PDF format and can be downloaded to your computer and/or printed.

As for rear tire spin, that's something you'll just have to get used to. You should probably NOT be driving in 4wheel drive on pavement unless its snowy or icy. During turns on a surface with reasonably good adhesion, the front end and back ends of the vehicle are moving at different speeds. Since the transfer case is locked in , it's only allowing the two drive shafts to turn at the SAME speed. This puts undue stress on hubs, CV's, differentials, drive shafts , u-joints and the transfer case.

Take your VIN to your local Toyota dealer and see if the headgasket recall or the steering linkage recalls have been performed. If you have a V6, it's known to be prone to heat-related problems, so keep the radiator/cooling system in good working order. I would also have the fuel filter replaced ( even tho Toyota says not to EVER change it). After a lot of miles, filters DO clog up. This wears out fuel pumps and causes other problems ( that seem unrelated to fuel delivery issues).

Do all the 'normal' upkeep items like: Spark plugs (use NGK ), distributor cap and rotor, plug wires, flush and fill all the fluids (coolant, tranny fluid, diff oil, engine oil).

For the owners manual you can try what my wife did. She emailed Toyota through their customer support area on their website asking how to get a owners manual (said we recently bought it and it did not have one). Their reply was "send us your address and we will mail one to you at no cost":jaw drop: It should be here next week!
