World's STUPIDEST design blunder...

Some beefed up rear springs could solve all your issues... :jk:

My 4runner is not too bad comparing to wife's Sequoia. I guess there is about 15 degree slope when the 3rd row seat is down. We cracked a water melon one time.

You gotta love those Honda engineers who equipped the wifey's Pilot with a secret booze compartment. Hmmm, maybe that's why she wanted the Pilot over the 5th gen.

Oh, and guys, don't give the OP too much of a hard time. I think he might be a little "slow". He doesn't even know which state he lives in.:)

The truck frame already puts the 4runner at a cargo space disadvantage compared to the crossover competition. If the cargo floor behind the rear seats is maxed out in depth, the edge near the hatch would have to be raised, further reducing the already compromised rear cargo space.

Just a thought.

I'll choose the full-size spare tire on 4R over temporary spare + hidden booze safe on Pilot :p

Anyways, I had the same problem before, it was the milk.... I ended up putting the 3rd row seat in the basement.
 
Have you not seen the factory rake on these things? There's no way anything could roll out the back. :lmao:

On the other hand driveways and garages are pitched so that rain etc will be carried out of, or away from the house.

So the solution is simple...back in :thumb:

Or you could use the grocery bag hooks for their intended purpose :boink:
 
I use the bag hooks with plastic food bags. When the hooks are full I tie the "handles" on the plastic food bags into a knot to capture the contents.
 
Old thread I know, yet I have to agree with Boompa 100%. I recently bought a used 07. Several times objects have launched out of the cargo area when I opened the lift gate. Today it was a container of washer fluid. I expect it now. It still makes me furious. This feature was over looked by the designers, it sucks. To have yet another thing fly out and burst is not acceptable. Cargo nets are not a solution, they are a band-aid for horrible design.

But wait there is more.....

My vehicle has only one cigarette lighter that is only powered when the ignition is on. I just drove a 5-hour stretch. How do I charge the cell phones and power the Tom-Tom??? You can't.

The vehicle body is tilted down in the front like a 60's dragster cartoon. About 4" by measurement on the front tire vs the back. I can not see stop lights because they are above the windshield as is sit in the driver's seat because of that. I have to hunker down. I can not adjust the seat to be comfortable for me too.

The radio and climate controls are not legible during the day while wearing sunglasses. This is dangerous as you can not adjust either while driving safely. And finally the fuel gauge is obscured by my right hand while driving. I have nearly run out of gas several times because of it.

Within one day of purchasing it the rear vie mirror fell off. A month later the lift gate actuator motor quit.

I am extremely regretfully that I purchased it. Anyone reading this please take a hard look before you buy. IMHO the 4Runner reputation is based on fan boy nonsense. This is the worse vehicle I have ever owned.

Let's take the sh*ttiest thread from 2013 and bump it to tell 5th gen guys how bad my 4th gen is. And I'm going to complain about the dumbest crap no one cares about to make extra sure I get flamed.

Okay, so this is an old thread, but I have a question. I've never had anything roll around in back.. Are only 4Runners with third rows sloped? As far as I can tell, my cargo area is flat.. And I put my grocery bags in the second row anyway. They fit perfectly in the foot well..
 
Mine seems flat also. I do prefer paper grocery bags, thought. They don't dump their contents as easily and do recycle with my normal stuff (don't have to remember to bring them back to the store)
Alternatively, a small or medium plastic tote is perfect for stowing glass breakables (OK, whiskey bottles) on the trip home.
 
I noticed that the maintenance schedule for 5th gens now includes ensuring that the floor mats are properly fastened. Perhaps going forward, the maintenance literature should provide that one checks that windshield washer jugs are properly fastened to prevent them from launching from the tailgate.
