Worn throttle body causing high idle

Ive only had my 96 for a couple days now and as I was giving it a tune up, new plugs, wires, and cleaned the throttle body, it now idles high? Well, I pulled it off today, trying to figure out what could be causing it, and there are wear marks from the butterfly on one side of the TB. From what I can tell, since I cleaned out all the grease that was inside the TB, it now has allowed the butterfly to slide back over against the worn side. What is happening is when I give it throttle, and let off, it automatically closes on the worn side, thus not allowing it to close down to an idle. If I pull on the linkage towards the front of the runner, it moves it back into normal position and idles normal. Is there anyway to fix this TB or am I going to be stuck buying a new one. If im stuck buying a new one, would there possibly be someone on here who might have one for sale?

If it happened just after a clean, be sure you have reconnected tightly all the hoses, especially the one to the round throttle opener thingy on the passenger side of the TB. Mine was not pushed on tight after I cleaned TB and it drove me crazy for a whole winter. You are probably right in your diagnosis, but it is worth making sure.

Which one are you talking about? I checked everything that I could see. I drove it awhile today, and out of the blue, it started idling at about 700 or so, so back to normal. But something still doesnt seem right. Still seems to be an odd idle or something, surged a little up and down. Ive checked it all though, even sprayed carb cleaner around everything i messed with, while it was running, and no change in RPM. Im lost. RPM's are good, but something isnt right.
 
Are you sure the engine wasn't just warming up? They idle high, when they are warming up, and then the idle lowers when the engine is warm.

Just checking...
 
Exact same thing happened to me after cleaning my TB. My only guess is that is got warped and the carbon buildup still allowed it to seal properly, and after cleaning it no longer closes right.

I got a Used TB at pick a part and it has been good ever since.

I checked all vacum lines and sensors before replacing it

The round thing left and down from throttle tube. My hose was sitting on the metal nipple, but not pushed on. It gave me 1300 rpm idle for two months after a TB clean before I found it. Like I said, probably not your case.

In my defense, the two months were January and February and it was just too darn cold to spend the time chasing a fast idle in an unheated garage.

No it was good and warm. I let it run while I was tinkering with it for a good hour, then finally jumped in and took the 30 minute drive up into Cheyenne and back just for the heck of it. I appreciate the input though.

Yeah, that has to be what it was. The buildup was keeping it sealed, and once cleaned out, no good, LOL. By chance do you remember how much it cost you for a used one? I cant seem to find one anywhere around me.

Oh, yeah, mine is hooked up. I bet that drove you crazy!! And yeah, I know what you mean about messing with it in the cold. I was outside with mine the other night doing all of this. I messed around with it til about midnight and it was 14 degrees when I finally gave up and went in the house!
