Worst stuck stories and pictures

I don't have any pictures, But was on one of the ORV beaches in the Outer banks. For about a week and a half, had no trouble whatsoever. I never even had to air down my tires. One day, we went on the beach for dinner, and stayed out late. It was a good 15 minutes before we had to get off the beach for the night, and just couldn't get traction, I hit a bad spot, and buried my 09 up to the frame. Thankfully a guy in a rental jeep gave us a tug, and we where on our way. My runner was 100% stock at the time.

Got stuck in this hole due to not enough skinny pedal and I didn't know how deep it was. I gave it another go after being pulled out and made it.

Second stuck I was high centered but got quickly recovered from that. One of the most fun days I have ever had but I quickly grew to hate mud.

Figured I might as well post this up....

Short version: I drove up a hill behind my school parking lot and my trailer hitch caught on the curb not allowing me to come down (it is steeper than it looks). I got the cops called on me, but luckily the charges of "vandalism" were dropped.

I posted these pics up in the New Members area, but here's the story that goes with it.
First time 4Runner owner, and grew up with a mom who worked in the emergency room. That means I didn't learn to ride ATV's, motorcycles, jetskis, go karts, or do much of anything fun that could possibly land me in the ER. It was quite an effort for her to relent to a skateboard at 8 and a BB gun at 10. She even had a fit after I'd already moved out on my own, when I bought a 9mm pistol at 24! So at 32 I don't know how to drive off road, but have this wonderful new highly capable vehicle. I've driven a little in dry grass fields and gravel roads, but who am I kidding, a Civic could have handled everything but the steep ditch I crossed to get there.
On a warm winter day here in Oklahoma I decided to drop it into 4WD and cut across the field on the way to work. It hadn't rained in weeks, so I felt pretty safe. Boy was I wrong. Murphy's Law found me, and gave me a nice deep mud hole. I spun a little trying to get out, even rocked it back and forth some, until it just wouldn't move anymore. Then I got out and walked the last ~1/4mi to work. The first break I got one of the guys who had a Civic to pull me out, thankfully he was driving his 1500 with nice big mud tires that day though.
Before I could get pulled out I had to speak with a police officer that someone had called to talk to me. I was told "since the vehicle was left unattended on airport property, even though it was outside of the secure area, it was deemed suspicious. The vehicle was searched thoroughly, then towed to a nearby impound yard at my expense." The officer was kind enough to forgo the federal charges of trespassing as a courtesy since I work at the airport, but I was still liable for the tow and impound fees, and would have to sign the police report. The whole time the officer was talking with me I was quiet and polite, yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir. Do you know if the lot accepts a check sir? Finally he handed me back my license, cracked a smile and said, "I just can't do it anymore, your coworkers put me up to this!" I had been so focused on the officer I hadn't heard the snickers and muted giggles coming from behind me that the officer had to watch the whole time! It was a huge sigh of relief for me, and I was ecstatic that I didn't have to pay for a tow, especially since it had only been about 80 minutes since I walked away from the vehicle.
Needless to say, my coworker pulled me out with little effort and I learned a couple things. I still laugh at the whole affair, and so the the guys at work. Some d@^& Yankee moves to Oklahoma and gets his less than 1 year old $40k truck stuck in the mud. "Didn't you ever drive a go kart or 4-wheeler?" At least the general consensus was that if I'd had proper off road tires, there's no way I would have gotten stuck, even with my inexperience and poor technique!
I learned to keep my foot on the gas in mud, don't abandon the vehicle without trying everything (I'd forgotten to try A-Trac and the rear locker), and that highway tires have no place off-road. I have yet to get more adventurous, but sure this won't be the last time I get stuck.

Sometimes you have to get stuck to know how not to get stuck. This was a great learning experience and no real harm done and you'll never forget this.

I'd be willing to bet you take a couple of buddies and go back soon and learn how to smash through that spot without getting stuck. :D Be careful on city airport property. They tend to get tacky. The front lawn of OMA is also a bad place.

So I have only owned my 4Runner for about a month now so I don't have any good story of getting stuck with it but I do have some of my old vehicles. Living in Southern California I don't see too many mud holes unfortunately.

The first month I bought my Chevy Trailblazer I took it through the trails and found a really narrow one. Their were a few small puddles and then this one, it took up the whole trail. Because the trail was so narrow I couldn't open my door so I decided not to get out and test to see how deep it was. I probably should have because as soon as I hit it the front end sank completely. The rear tires didn't even get even get wet but I was completely stuck. I had to crawl all the way out and get out through the hatch. Sorry old cell phone picture

A couple buddies of mine pilled into our friend beater pathfinder and decided to hit the everglades in Florida. Needless to say we didn't get far and all 5 of us had no chance on getting it out. we ended up walking a few miles down the road and saw a guy with a big truck in his drive way and asked if he could pull us out and he didn't mind at all. He actually asked if we wanted to keep going and he would keep pulling us out every time we got stuck. It was pretty fun, ended up spending a few more hours out there.

Who doesn't love a good 4wheeler trip in upper Michigan. We had about 10 quads and a few dirt bikes and had a blast. This was probably the deepest mud whole me found and it was a *****. Thank good for the wench, we had trouble finding a strong enough tree to sucks it out. When we got back to the house we ended up driving it into the shallow part of the lake and washed it that way.

Got stuck trying to pull this jeep out. This was some nasty stuff. Had a f250 get stuck all the way up to the top of his 35" tires had a tow truck tow him out because me and another jeep didn't have enough weight to tug him out. Also a pic of my old xterra sunk in a hole that was way deeper than it looked.

Seriously though the place where the jeep got stuck was the softest dirt ever. We tried a high lift with a 2×2 foot board underneath and the board sank a foot down into this mud. I tried to grab a few branches to the left of the jeep and fell in a hole that came up to my waist. (Im 6'2")

I buried my 4Runner around 2 months ago in a 5 ft mud hole. We were running through some light stuff (about 1 ft) until I hit this giant pit along one of the edges. Mud got into every crack and crevice and I had to take the entire interior out. I hate mud.

Unner We are all being hypothetical. "Stuck Stories" refers to situations where we should have been stuck if we were in anything other than a 4runner, stopped to take a picture, and kept on going. We are just finishing our stories as if we were in a *insert inferior suv here* and actually had gotten stuck.

No pic, but I got a story.

last summer, I took my kids out to a small river-ish place up here called Deep Creek. always a lot of people there, usually a good time. Anyways, this day it was sorta empty abd I decided to venture down stream a bit to a place I've never been. BAM! I come across a a huge patch of soft sand and of course I didnt realize it til I was half bottomed out. my truck isnt 4WD and I've been stuck before so I tried looking for some rocks or wood to get some traction to get out. nothing was working. I let some air out of my tires and tried twisting out a bit and thats when I completely bottomed out. I sent my kids to go play in the creek, no reason to ruin their day and they were about 40 feet away from me sitting on my bed wondering what the hell I was gonna do. I end up calling a buddy of mine and he comes out to pull me out. Of course I'm hearing all his jabs about how his Ford is gonna pull my Toyota out...right until he buries his truck trying to turn around to position it behind mine some 30 feet away. we sat there laughing at each other for a bit and wondering who we could call that might be home, being that this was a wednesday afternoon. as we're sitting there looking beaten, this Jeep pulls up. I swear this kid looked like he was about 13 hops out of the drivers seat and maybe 4 of his friends jump out with him. He kinda smiles and says, "Dudes...you guys need help?" his friends quickly attach tow straps to my truck, pull me right out, then to my buddies truck and pull him right out as well. took him a whole 9 minutes, lol. We stood there kinda humbled as we thanked them and the kid and his friends jump back into their jeep. they smile and say, "no problem, anytime..." and head off.
we end up loading the kids back in the trucks and head over to my buddies house. we tell his wife what happened and the only thing she says is, "I told you, lets buy a jeep...but nooooo you wanted the Ford...POS!"
to this day she still tells us how she's still gonna get a jeep, lol

Haha that's what I thought was going on here.

I uses this line with the girlfriend all the time!

Nice, just don't get stuck or you'll never hear the end of it!

Where is that? It looks like somewhere around five-mile pass. I really should explore that area some time.

Yup, top of the first tailings piles right at the end of Rattlesnake.

And say the word, I'd love to head out there with you. Stock trucks with decent tires have very little trouble on Rattlesnake, and there's tons of dirt roads to explore too.

Huh, who knew. I've never heard of "Rattlesnake". I'm thinking there are probably lots of places I haven't explored, that aren't that far away.

One of these days I'll take you up on that.

Of course the biggest problem is I'm rarely at home.
