So i've been searching high and low for a SC for my 4runner project and outside of the overpriced ones on flea bay, i've had zero luck…guess they're a hot commodity these days. Too bad I didn't start this project a year ago, when one could walk in the dealership and buy one. I've also been looking for a color matched Desert Dune hood scoop
Enough ranting, wanted to get the T4R's opinion as I found this 3rd gen for sale in New England that has both. It's located about 4 hours from me in the boonies, the seller originally hung up on my when I asked if he'd sell the 1st gen SC separately. I called about a week later and he still has it, but is only willing to sell the entire rig, he did come down from $2900 to $2500 and told me not to bother showing up with less than $2500 if I wanted it.
So is this worth the hassle to spend $2500, 8 hours round trip drive, battery and gas money just to snag the SC and swap the hoods and minty fresh driver seat? What would be the resell value of this 4R / or scrap value once I do that?
This is the information I got from the seller:
-Desert Dune w/ Silver 1998 Limited
-72k original miles. 5 speed standard
-TRD supercharger
-(he claims perfect interior / exterior)
-but here's the catch, it does not run as the block is cracked :sad:
-Also from talking to him the nose cone on the SC appears to have a slight oil leak. (so i'd be in another chunk of change for a a rebuild and getting the dynamic tensioner)
-could not determine what lift is installed or just spacers from my conversation with him
-Could not determine if there is a rear locker from my conversation with him
Thoughts on my debate to buy would be greatly appreciated?
(also if anyone is interested in the rig without the S/C and with a mint non scooped DD hood maybe we can work something out)

rincess: doesn't have the patience, but only you can judge the consequences of ticking her off. I'd probably buy it and put up a new CL ad immediately. By the time you have the SC and leather pulled, you should have a buyer lined up for the rest. List it for $1500 and be prepared to sell for $800. Still not a bad deal and I'm sure you can find some other useful parts on the truck to make it more worth your while.
