Worth it? Leather upgrade at 149000 miles

Nice, please do so. I’ve been eyeing a kit on there for a few weeks now. I have factory leather but the driver seat is pretty bad and the back has tears. I have a sport set of cloth OEM seat covers I was going to swap out, but maybe some perforated leather would be nice instead. Did you go with the Felix, premium or 100%?

I went with the Deluxe. I had made some calls and from what they were saying, that leather to vinyl ratio is about the same as what comes from the factory. And nice! perforated would be a good touch. I was hoping to make the fitment look as factory as possible other than color which is black with a fawn colored stitch.

Having had leather seats

on my last 3rd gen. I liked um b/c they offered more butt support but after a long drive they would get kind of uncomfortable. But then again what wouldnt..right?

If youre looking for a better fit some folks have had thei sport seats "restuffed" or firmed up b/c like mine the seat bottoms are kind of weak and after a while it feels like your sinking.

Again it sounds like a subjective decision really.

Yeah overall my seats are in good shape but I bought some upholstery foam in case I ended up needing to fill in some spots that are lower.

Personally, I would NOT do that kind of an upgrade with high miles.
I have well over 200k on mine, so the only upgrades I am doing are ones that I can take with me...
if/when I decide to sell it.

But mostly because my luck sucks.
As soon as I would get leather seats, (or, re-paint the exterior)...
something serious would happen.
And my new leather seats would end up in the junkyard!

I'm so jealous of that underside. I really need to go south for my next 4Runner, you would cringe at what mine looks like underneath, and mines actually in decent shape for a 180k mile New England truck. :redbrick:

That's what insurance is for... if you cover the truck correctly, then its a non issue.

Everything from my sliders, suspension, electronics, dual battery, and aftermarket equipment is all covered. If I total the truck tomorrow, I get a check, and I get to move on.

I don't let things like that stop me from enjoying my truck the way I want to enjoy it.

Yeah I was lucky with mine. After I bought it one of the first things I did was clean all of the frame, wheel wells, and suspension components then Painted and undercoated them. Didn't want to deal with major rust for a while haha.

Yeah I have full coverage on mine. It covers both me and anything else along with vandalism which I'm glad to have. And the cloth isn't that bad to me its more of I am already putting in seat heaters and was considering the upgrade to leather. I'm hoping the kit comes in sooner than later haha.

Update

Just wanted to update everyone on the progress I’ve made. I have gotten pictures of the wiring procedure for the heated seats to get that out of the way and I had spoken with leatherseats.com and we went ahead and moved my kit into production. I had been waiting on some samples to come in. Will be posting a new thread when everything comes in.

Hey guys wanted to show you all the samples I received from leatherseats.com. The one I chose was the Fawn stitch with black leather. They had also sent out a chocolate stitch with graphite leather. Really excited to see the actual seat covers haha

Im in the same boat as I just clicked over 200k and still want leather at some point. As for color, since I blacked out my interior last year (carpet and panels), ive been wanting to do the red rock/dark brown style color. Think it would really pop against the black.

Hey I got the pictures and info for the heated seat install and will post it with the seat cover install. Also the deck is a kenwood excelon 9903s and it’s honestly great. It has Apple CarPlay, android auto, a capacitive touchscreen and a lot of other features. Would recommend it!

also I would be doing the work myself and would be replacing the original factory cloth if I do it. Here are some pictures of my rig to give an idea.

well i thought long and hard and really didnt want leather or sunroof. ended up the only runner equipt as i liked had the leather and sunroof.

the leather isnt as hot as i thought it might be so im no longer bothered by it and it is 100x more durable then clothe seats.

it all depends what you like but those seats look nice so i would leave them alone until they get torn or something.

you might find someone willing to trade you clothe for leather, had someone offered me that deal when i first bought mine i would have traded, but not any more, im used to the leather and they are too nice to get rid of.

Appreciate it bud. It as worth it to me as I was tired of the gray color on the lower portions and felt the black updated the look.
