Would like some seat protection advice

So, I am the original owner of my '05 SE w/107k miles. I purchased it with leather seating, but over time, on the left lip of the drivers seat (I'm referring to the edge that your butt slides over as you get in and out), wore down and developed a hole. I have since replaced all of the leather with new leather, but now that my T4R is sitting much higher, simply getting in and out seems to be starting to wear the leather again, on that same drivers side left lip.

Here is a pic (not of my truck) of what where I am talking about:

I know damn well, that I am not the only one that this is happening to. Does anyone have any ideas on how to protect it??

probably wouldn't work too well with leather but I use a fleece blanket wrapped around my seats. They're soft, warm in the winter, they Protect the seats from dirt, mud, dog hair, sweat, food, when they get dirty I just pull them out and throw them in the washer. I like to think that the wear on the edge is less since the fleece is taking the rubbing.

Wow, I am surprised that nobody has commented. I thought for sure, that others would be having this same problem. So far, the only solution that I can come up with is possibly, a black seat cover (to match the black/graphite leather) for just the bottom portion of the seat. Well, hopefully, somebody has a better solution.

Along those same lines, are there any neoprene-type covers that protect against moisture? I use my truck to tow my jetski and it's hard not to get the seats wet after a ride, even with towels placed on the seat.

Yes, neoprene does a good job preventing moisture from getting to your seats. I used to have an Xterra and had the matching neoprene seat covers. Seats never got wet.

Yes, check out Wet Okole seat covers. I'm happy with mine. They aren't cheap but they're waterproof, easy to clean and durable. I believe they'd fulfill OP's requirement to protect the upholstery when getting in and out of the truck especially after it's been lifted. The downside is the inside of your truck will smell like a wetsuit.

Back to the OP's question, I believe his year and model came with running boards. My '08 Limited has leather and I always worry about the same kind of wear and tear on the outside edge, so ...

Instead of sliding over the edge of the seat, I use the A-pillar hand grip and step up on the running boards when getting in and out. Not sure, but the idea might be somewhat uncomfortable for those who are rather tall.

This. I have factory running boards and know of this universal issue (all SUVs) which is why I try to step on the board and "sit down/up" onto the seat as opposed to sliding in/out of the seat, thus reducing "scraping" of the bolster. However, it will eventually wear out.

That "lower leg bolster" is getting worn on mine too. I hate seat covers so when they do eventually get really bad, I plan on just "reupholstering" them with leather seat covers that look factory. Can't think of a particular manufacture, but they ARE out there..........

Well, I am 6'2", which makes it difficult to get in, even with the running boards. I will probably get a black, neoprene seat cover for the "butt" part and use that for now, until I have a better idea. Maybe I'll take it off for date night or something.
