Would this work?

I happen to be a staunch and dedicated seat belt user and would be even if wearing one wasn't mandatory in my state. Thus, I really don't mind the chime to remind me to buckle up. BUT...

There are the rare occasions when I don't want to wear a belt and don't want the chime going off - say, for example,when I'm driving around the farm getting in and out checking trail cameras or something like that.

Would it work to just go to the salvage yard and get the male part of the seat belt buckle and when necessary, just click it in the other part? Would that fool the computer? I suppose I could just buckle the belt behind my back but I don't think that'd be very comfortable.

There's a relatively simple way to disable the chime. I did it but it's been nearly 15 years so I don't remember how.
I'm pretty sure there's a how-to on the site...

It worked for my 2008 T4R.

"Hey guys,
To turn off your seat belt chime do the following:
1) make sure the trip meter is in ODO mode.
2) turn the key to the ON position (dont start)
3) within a few seconds of turning it to ON, press and hold the trip reset for 15 seconds
4) while holding the trip reset, buckle drivers seat belt (after 15 econds)
5) odo reading will change to "B-on"
6) press trip reset once to change to " B-off"
Turn off car
All done!
PS Wear your belts!!!!!

I can confirm this is the way to do it

It took a couple of tries, but I did get this to cut off most of the seat belt warning chime. It still dings a few times and then stops - fortunately it stops short of the rapid, insistent, almost angry dinging that it used to do if you didn't get the message initially!

Thanks folks and let me close by stating for the record, I DO STILL WEAR MY SEAT BELT!
