Would you buy a 3rd gen with 240k miles?

I've been shopping around, there are some really clean builds that look to be well maintained, but have 240k miles. Most have 2-3 owners (including current one). Would you buy a 3rd gen w/ that many miles?

I think a more appropriate question is: at what price would you buy one with that many miles.

With 240k miles, I would pay $1,000 for a running one. $2k if it's got great service records. I know some guys would pay more, some less, but that's just me.

Great point. Not sure where you are, but $2,000 for a running 3rd gen (regardless of miles) is a pipe dream in CA.

Are you saying you wouldn't buy over half the 4Runners on this forum? We all got high mileage 4Runners and they are going strong!

I'm sitting on 217,000 myself with 10 PSI of boost and it runs perfect. Suspension and some steering will need to be replaced (tie rods, sway bar end links) at that point but these engines last practically forever.

My last Toyota we sold, SOLD mind you with 290k miles.

Like others have said, these are old vehicles and most are near or over 200k miles. Mine is at 240k and while I'm the original owners, I would still buy one if it was well maintained and I wanted one.

550K original miles on this 4Runner. Wish I had taken a pic of the odometer. No shortcuts taken on maintenance.

To answer your question, yes, I would buy a 4Runner with those miles if it's been maintained, and the same would go for a 300K or 400K 4Runner.

If they were highway miles and a good history and not much rust. It wouldn't bother me that much. Especially if it was going to be a second vehicle I could work on at leisure.

I purchased my V6 4Runner with 232,00 miles.
I purchased my V6 Taco with 331,000 miles.

Both are still running strong. I actually drive the truck more than my rig. The 3.4L 5VZ is a bomber motor.

I bought my 98 with 260k on it and it is smooth like a Lexus, of course I've done every maintenance possible to it. It was bone stock and I bet the rear locker and 4x4 was never used, hahaha.

if it was well maintained, I would have no problem purchasing one with that mileage.
