Would you buy a used T4R from a non-Toyota dealership?

Here is my $0.02: What dealer you buy from does not matter as long as car\trucks checks out either by you or trusted mechanic\dealer. Obviously car fax, car history, receipts of work had done etc helps as well and always part of my “car search”. If car checks out, on the end, I always go with my “gut’s feeling” this way I have no one to blame if I am not happy with purchase afterwards.
When I searched to upgrade from my 3rd generation I test drove at least 5 4runers and walked away with out even thinking of making any offers…it just never felt right to trade in what I had… then I test drove my first V8 4runner (2004 limited) and was “hooked” just like you described… but dealer was asking too much and did not work with me; couple month latter I found 2005 SR5, leather, 4x4, V8 around 150 miles from home… went there and purchased it the same day for $17,500, truck had 27K on it, was 3 years old at that time and looked like new.:biggrin2:
If this does not feel right deal to you do not do it… you will come across the one you like eventually.

I'd keep your existing 4Runner and trade that Honda Pilot in, even if you do take a small hit on gas mileage. T4R>Pilot for soo many reasons.

I also agree with what has been said above. As long as you like the truck and its been thoroughly inspected and checks out, the dealer shouldn't matter all that much. I purchased mine from a Lexus dealership.

That being said, I wouldn't be too keen on the fact that the wiring is all hacked up. If everything is put back together properly though, it might be a good point of negotiation to save some $$.
