Would you buy this 1st Gen 4R soft top brand new? How much?

The SunTop is a convertible top for the 1st Gen 4Runners that has been out of production for several years.
- It requires no drilling and bolts on in a matter of minutes using the factory bolts.
- It uses the factory glass rear window.
- The top can be taken down or put up in less than 5 minutes.
- The bows fold down to the rear and can be covered with the included boot.
- The included bikini top can then be put up in a couple of minutes if you still want shade.
- The top is made using Haartz StayFast, a premium convertible top canvas fabric that is used on many luxury-class vehicles, so it is as quiet as (or more quiet than) the hardtop.

This top could be put back in to limited production if there is enough demand for it.

i like the can back because of the vinyl window in the rear and the sides roll up safari style but this is also a nice top, i would be interested if it went back into produuction let me know

I had a similar style top years ago on my '89. It wasn't made very well, but it was a lot of fun while it lasted. I like the way the frame on this one also folds down as opposed to the Can-Back. I also like being able to use the original glass window. The rear vinyl on my old top ended up so scratched and cloudy that I couldn't see out of it. I would like to know more about how the Suntop supports the glass window while it is in the up position.

My 4Runner's been down for about 6 months now mainly because it needs a new head gasket. I was actually thinking about selling it and getting something new, but I can't seem to part with it. Now I'm thinking about getting a refurbished engine and a lift kit, so I might as well look at rag tops too.

I am currently in the process of buying one and I can honestly say that I would want one of those tops. That would be awesome! Two thumbs up!

How would it connect to the body of the truck? Would it use the stock holes for the hard top, or would we have to drill new holes for it?

BTW, the top alone will be about $800 (well worth it, IMO) and the bikini & boot are about $200 more, total. I don't think he's figuring shipping in that price.

hell ya I'm interested been looking for one, if there still available I'll even pick it up depending how long it takes to make one and so forth, will be going to colorado in july so i could pick it up then or have a friend pick it up and I could get when I go down there to see them...

Those of you who have contacted me for the manufacturer contact info, please PM me to let me know if you've actually talked to the guy. You may have to ask his secretary to speak to him directly. You'll need to talk to him (may be more than once) so he knows you're serious about buying the top. He knows I'm serious, 'cause I've called him 3-4 times.

Conversely, I've posted in several forums, and he currently only has inventory to build 10 tops. Once that's spoken for, he might not produce any more.

Still no Reponse

I tried contact the manufacture on numerious occassions. Still haven't got to talk the deal yet. Out of 8 calls, only got to talk to real person once. She said she would give name, number and what I wanted to him. Been two weeks and still no reply. Still trying........By the way, Just finished full restore of the 87 4Runner. Haven't had the top off yet. Except for painting. Plan to run topless next couple of weeks. :bash:
