The idea that Texas sovereignty somehow predates the United States is pretty ridiculous since settlers found texas long after the colonies were established. It used to be mexico.

Not so, the Spanish visited and mapped Texas in the early 16th century (around 1520). The Spanish flag flew over Texas from around that time until 1685 – at this point there are only 12 colonies and Virgina, the oldest colony, is not even 80 years old. By the time Georgia became a colony, Texas had seen two different flags (Spain and France).

I have never in any of my posts said that Texas' sovereignty PREDATED that of the United States'. I simply said it was the first country to become a state in the United States, which is also false, it was the second. I admitted to that. Settlers didn't find Texas after the colonies were established – they moved to Mexican Texas in the 1820's.

No. I would not. Here's why. I have tons of heritage from Louisiana, Arkansas, and south Carolina dating back to 1706 including members of the Continental Congress, Revolutionary War veterans and plantation owners with streets named after family members. That being said, to me, the Stars and Bars represent division and standing against our great country and forgetting that we are fifty states, not the north and south. With our boys serving in the military (mine in the Marine Corps), there's only one flag for me!

Note from the left coast: according to an HR training I took last year, in CA it is considered a workplace harassment to have a confederate flag in your cube or desk. Someone actually asked if they had a confederate sticker on their car in the work parking lot if that was also considered inappropriate, and the instructor said, to be safe, yes! Well I better go tell all those truckers to take off their playboy mudflaps.

It's not in color, so not exactly accurate. Either way I'm happy with it.

Good to know. Wasn't planning on doing anything with rental car, but it doesn't hurt to know what the HR departments say. It's a shame that displaying a flag could hinder your career.

So, if I'm not mistaken in what you are saying, I have pride in the fact that I am a naturally born and raised Texan, and I will love the day when Texas becomes its own nation, in which Texas basically views itself that way anyways. Does my pride make me ignorant?

texas is actually throwing the idea around of a secession from the united states. I believe the federal governments response was dont call us when you need military assistance... The confederate flag means different things to different people. to some its a symbol of race, to some its a symbol of family pride for those who fought the civil war it attempts of the southern states seceeding from union. To others its a rebelious symbol, some are just proud to be born and raised in the south and feel that pride can be represented by the confederate flag. To each there own as everyone in the country has the right to pursue happiness!

My view of visiting/living in Texas wasn't a good one and they love to control freedoms down there and the bigger cities have very racial overtones and just didn't like the arrogant atitudes that surround many Texans thus is their arrogancy to support succesion;good luck with that. Texas isn't all it's cracked up to be but it does have it's nice parts along with some of the people but for the most part I could take the state or leave it. And their 4wheeling trails are as good as their skiing.

We are currently in a war you piece of $#%&. You talk about wanting Texas to break off and become its own Nation.

As a veteran who has served with many Texas boys I can affirm that your twisted viewpoint is not representative of Texas and our brothers in military who hail from Texas.

I understand that we are in a war, but likewise it is one we created. I am a part of our U.S military, Air Force to be exact. My uncle is an officer commanding for the Army. My heritage goes to John Adams, so don't judge a book by its' cover. I take pride in the U.S as a whole, though I will always love my state and if it wants to become its own nation, then it has a right to. There are many reasons why for it as well. By no means are we rascist, prejudice, or any of the sort just because I am a proud Texan. In our education system, we not only teach about our history, but we teach every detail of the United States as well, so by no means are we uneducated either. I never said I necessarilly want Texas to become our own nation, I just stated that ever since we rejoined the U.S, we always threw around the idea of becoming a sovereign nation. That doesn't make me ignorant, as I am stating facts.

Also, I raised myself, my biological family had no part in it, as I have never been connected to them since I was young for many reasons and issues.

Ron, I apologize for wherever you went that gave you a bad impression, as a lot of Texans are very respectful. Whenever you are down south here, feel free to come by and we can make some bbq.

Also as to what aha said, I view the confed flag as being independance, not from the U.S, either. It is also a family meaning too.
