Is it safe to assume that you are either already married, have a girlfriend OR that you have no intention of EVER going out on a date with a non-white girl ?

I don't mean black necessary but it is a pretty big county and there are all kinds of smoking @ss hot ladies out there from asian girls to latinas. I assume that none of them (minorities) will ever date you if you have a confederate flag on your 4Runner (but I could be wrong).

We already have a "need more hot chicks thread" and I am sure there is a bit of color on that thread somewhere.


Edit: I do realize SC isn't exactly diversity central but when I lived there I rarely went out since I was busy in Z Navy so I can't say for sure. California on the other hand is pretty F'n diverse.

Who knows. It may only stay on for a week or two. I still don't know if I'll work up the courage to put it on.

Luckily I will mostly likely not be taking the 4Runner to CA. Gas prices are too high to really enjoy it.

Clemsonfan, my advice for you specifically would be this--if you have to "work up the courage" to do this, then you should NOT do it. Like others have said, you shouldn't display something that you know to be controversial if you don't totally believe in it, and can defend it. You're obviously not sold on it, so I would pass if I felt like that.

If that's what you want, DO IT!! Don't rely on internet 'peoples' opinion. I believe in freedom of choice and probably what the conf flag stands for, But i don't like its appearance/colors & therefore would never put it on my vessel.
I am, however, searching locally for the Florida state flag/symbol bumpersticker, it shares similarities with the confederate flag. It's pretty cool and I wouldn't hesitate to represent, just hard to find in person believe it or not.
I see so many weekend warriors with "salt life" stickers and Oklahoma license plates its sickening here. ROCK WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN, FVCK WHAT WHOEVER THINKS. BE YOURSELF.

Would I? No. Should you? That's up to you, but I do not believe anyone other than yourself should stop you from making this choice if you'd like. That said, many people feel passionately on both sides of the argument for various reasons. Obviously you'd have to suffer the possible consequences of that decision, which may very well include vandalism.

As others have said, if you have to work up the courage, there is some hesitation/apprehension. With such passionate opinions on this, you'd be better off to have much conviction to the "cause" if you decide to wear that flag.

Got the "Don't Tread On Me" on the windshield. The American Flag and Confederate Flag are both of the rear window. I'll get some pictures later.

I don't think people will hear you out the same way as that kid. Also, having watched the video, the kid doesn't sound like someone who has a good grasp of history. I think you should ask (maybe not here) the question "is it reasonable for black Americans to have a negative view of the confederate flag" - look into the history of slavery, the Civil War and the confederate flag.

As I said above, I don't think that every southerner who flies it is racist but that doesn't mean its history isn't laced with racism. The civil war was very much about race and slavery. The confederate flag is for most Americans a symbol of the civil war and the south's attempted succession over the issue of slavery and grievances between slave and non-slave states.

Not quite as you state. The civil war was primarily about other forms of oppression, not necessarily focused on slavery and race (although the "right" of slavery was a large issue), however the modern education system simplifies the causes to slavery and those proclaiming it as the root cause know less about the war than they think. Economic oppression and state versus federal rights were key issues. The federal government was gaining power and some people believed itwas stepping on the toes of the states authority to decide upon and enforce laws. Lincoln himself reportedly owned slaves (as did almost 95% of the signers of the declaration of independence).

I don't want to have a history battle but please read the "first source" posted above.

The causes behind SC's succession were more complex than "just slavery" but it was a major factor. The word "slave" is mentioned 18 times in the text over at least 7 different paragraphs. It was definitely a major factor.

As I said before southern states had multiple grievances with northern states, many of which were related to slavery and north's insistence that new states must be slavery free to be admitted into the union.


I won't argue further. You are all free to make up your own mind but reading 1st source documents is a great way to learn the "truth" - no need to read a liberal or conservative book, just read the original document.
