would you trade your 99 sport for an 02 sr5

Hey guy I would like your input. I have a 99 t4r 4x4 sport NON locker. Has 112k. I dads friend(an old guy) has an 02 t4r sr5 4wd multi mode. Has 145k. He's willing to trade for mine straight or sell me his very reasonable he says. I drove it today and was kinda surprised, it felt more agile/car-like. Seemed a bit more comfortable. Within the past month I spent put in amsoil atf,amsoil gear oil,koyo rad(didnt want to risk any pink shakes) toyota red coolant,hoses. I even just installed new rear heater lines from toyota. I just detailed mine this week. I love the look of my t4r, but I did appreciate the bit more comfy ride in his. I just wished his was blacked out like mine. What do you guys think, his is 3 years newer but with about 33k more miles, for a straight up deal. Heres a pic of his and mine.

I like mine color scheme better, his is just gray inside.
I dont do any off roading this is my daily driver.

I wouldn't. I like your black sport way more. I would say that the miles vs. years negate each other. I would stick with the '99 if it were me.

I'd stick with the '99 as well. With the '02, you lose out on miles and ground clearance for a slightly more car-like ride. If you really want a softer ride, you could probably get some softer springs for your runner for cheap and leave it at that. Personally though, if I wanted a car-like ride, I'd get a car (or a car-based SUV if I really needed the space).

The 02s tend to be a lot more confusing with electronic assistance crap. I would not trade my 99 for one.

Also, my only reasoning for justifying such a trade would be mileage, but he has more miles than you.

Hope you don't trade it, because thats a horrible trade. hid probably feels more agile and car like because the 2002 models are so freaking low. Some stiffer springs and newer shocks should do your 99 well.

And black is way more bad ass! lol.

You want a more responsive steering? Replace your steering rack bushings, it costs $20.
You like the ride quality of the lower 01-02's? Ill sell you my old suspension.. not. I destroyed it becuase I hated it.

Seriously, OME and other offroad springs are stiffer because they have higher compression rates. You'll be happier with those if and when you plan to lift.

Also, get some polyurethane sway bar and steering rack bushings from Wheelers offroad, your truck will handle like a dream!

with as little mileage as it has and how clean it looks, assuming it's rust free and well maintained with records, I'd say at least 8-9k. Also depends where you live... in CO, that'll sell for way more than in CA.

99 SR5 Highlanders with 4wd are typically known for being the holy grail. No locker might be a little bit of a downer on price.

Overall, great color, great year, best options (skinny flares, sport hood, tallest, black on oak, etc) will get you more $$$.

Thanks for the input, the body is in great shape. Little ding on my driver door, some surface rust on the under body. Not too bad. That was the first thing that I looked at. I'm pretty picky. I just checked out ripcords build, freaking sweet. I was thinking IF I do get that 02 t4r I can make it look just like his, not exact but I could bring it up from looking like a soccer moms t4r. And I do agree that 99's look the best. But seeing his build makes me think I could make an 02 look sweet too.

Keep the 99. The only thing the 02 has on your 99 is AWD. That is the only reason I would trade, but I like the 99 Highlanders so much more. Plus the multimode can have issues with it sticking, which can be a costly fix. 3 years newer doesn't mean much for any 99+ 4runner and the other 4runner is closer to needing a TB & Water Pump. The 99 would look much better with a lift as well.

Price wise you could see 8-9k in the Bay Area, possibly 9.5k for the right person. Part of me really wishes I had got a black sport.

But honestly, if I were in your position, I would keep the 99. Its your truck, you know its maintenance history and even just did a bunch of preventative maintenance work it her.

The multi-mode feature is the ONLY plus I see in this swap. While the minuses include: going from black to silver, electronic transfer case (only engages when it wants to), Much higher miles, etc..
Well, I guess TRAC is nice too since you don't have a locker.. but still not worth it.

Dang. That's a tough one for sure! What are your long term plans on owning either 4Runnner? Do you plan on keeping them for a long time to come or do you see a different vehicle in the somewhat near future? If you plan on holding onto it for a while, I say keep yours. Lower miles and you know it inside and out way more that the other one. If you plan on swapping it out at some point, trade it. Might as well have a comfier ride!

No chance I would trade my 2000 for a 02. I like my rear locker way to much.
No but for real it would depend on how it was being driven and in what kind of environment. The AWD or multi mode can have its place.

Keep your car. I wanted that model and color so badly I cant imagine letting one go for another third gen? Change out the suspension if thats your issue and just keep making people jealous.

Doing anything else just wouldn't make sense.

Yes I have seen Ripcords (amazing build), but his is also Thundercloud, while the 02 is Millenium Silver. Ripcords is a much better color. Plus you will have to deal with the chrome, which is a huge negative IMO unless you plan to get bumpers.

Yeah like Ripcord emphasized, the AWD is the only perk. I am really happy to have my AWD, but I also have a locker. You are going to really have to work it for 9k and his is worth 7.5k tops. My 00 Limited with everything was 8.5k and it had 100k at the time, so for yours to be 9k someone would really have to like it.
