So, laying in bed with the wifey. I've been talking about getting a deuce and a half for a while. Here were her stipulations:

1) Don't have to sell one of the kids.
2) Has to have pink detailing.
3) Soft seats.
4) 5 point harnesses.
5) Has to be a "mobile Giggidy room."(Apparently so we don't have to pay for a hotel to get away from the kids.)

I've got the seats and harnesses covered, they're sitting in my storage building in Hickory.

What do you guys think? Think it's a good deal? Think she's a keeper?

I'm very seriously considering this. The pink is the only thing I'm trying to control on this project....

She's already said black and pink paint job.....

A deuce and a half, or a M35, is a military transport vehicle from the WW2 era. They are known as "deuce and a half" because 1, the Rock Well 2.5 ton axles underneath them, and 2, because that was the load limit for the vehicle.

Haha I dunno about skipping the pink, I can see it having some selective uses.

Now as for the "Giggidy Room" bit, if I was to come up on a M35 in the woods and it was a shaking and I was hearing a yelping and a squealing I'd be thinking more along the lines of "How soon should I be turning around and running right now?".

I have one that started out as a M109a3, just a different variant of the same M35a2 (deuce and a half), it is a fun project and a blast to drive around in. As for wheeling, no one that I have seen has been able to come up with a suitable roll over protection device for it, so I usually try not to get in too hairy of a situation, and it is a bit large so tight trail are not the best suited for it.

It is very fun to drive but requires maint. and upkeep and always doing a pre-drive inspection before driving on road is a good idea. It has a single circuit braking system, which works great but there is no back up, if you lose brakes you lose all brakes.

They are dead simple to work on, but most parts are HEAVY. I would read up on Steel Soldiers::Military Vehicles Supersite for a little research before you buy. They also have a classified section where everything from nice rigs to rusted out parts trucks are sold.

You sure you dont want a Unimog 404.1? You can still get the massive tent back/pickup area, but its not as massive, but its even more beast looking because its a forward control. Still plenty of room for "activities".

Last i checked they were not hard to find, cheap to buy, reliable, and parts were not very expensive. But to each their own, its not my thing either.

The Uni Mogs are nice, parts are not as bad as you would think, but those things are sloowwwwww. Not like the deuce is a speed demon, but on the roads a little better to keep up with traffic flow with the deuce than the Uni.
