Hello All,

My wife and I purchase a 2005 4Runner Limited 4x4 (V6). Has everything except NAV and the optional leveling suspension (sorry, I'm a noobie so I'm unfamiliar with 4Runner acronyms). This site: WOW. I'm seeing TONS of information!! I'm a DIYer kind of a guy so these forums are a blessing to say the least.

Mods I plan on doing:
1) 2006+ projector headlights (doesn't look too bad to do)
2) 2006+ LED tail light swap (looks very simple to do)
3) OEM NAV (hopefully)
4) Horn (stock one sounds wimpy)

Anyway, as time goes on, I'll try and share anything to all of ya!

Some background:
The SUV that preceded this one was a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. It was purchased new and has been a DOG (crazy perpetual repairs........even since new........this SUV was BABIED and was near mint when traded in. I used to belong to jeepsunlimited.com forum, lots of help and great guys over there......). I loved the Jeep though. However, it stranded my wife for the last time so I decided to get the truck I've been wanting since I was 16. I lived overseas for 8 years and had 2 Toyota HiLux Surfs (Japanese 4Runners with turbodiesel engines) and absolutely LOVED them. I miss them. Anyway, I'm back in the states .........so then, hello to everyone!!

Anyway, if anyone has anything to add regarding my hopeful mods, please do tell!!!

username explanation: I used to be called Cookie Rojas in high school, so hence the name.

Thanks!!! Great to be here.........about the wallet, yeah, I'm seeing the tail light alone will be at about $300-400 (depending where ya get them) and the front projectors (about $500).....the OEM NAV (i'm sure it's won't be cheap, but this mod I might postpone until the summer or if I find a deal on ebay).

This sure is refreshing though, instead of repairs ("its a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand"), I can concentrate on mods!! :dancin:
 
Man I know a few on here that would have loved to have either of your old Hilux Surf's with the Turbo Diesel. Anyways welcome to the board and good luck with the new vehicle.
 
Welcome. Sounds like you are already mod addicted. Search the DIY sticky for the horn (removing the small bottom "cover" should help.) Don't install a 5th Gen horn because it sounds even worse.

Welcome to the family. I just purchased blacked out tail lights from Jason of Burtman Industries and plan on purchasing JDM Headlights to match. Word of advice, modding your T4R can get addictive. Have fun.

Burtman Industries!!! WOW, didn't think he was still around, nice. I remember looking at his products when I had my Surfs!!

Anyway, I've been a forum member for 1 day and I have already ordered my 2006+LED tail lights!!! :biggrin2:

I found the stock LED taillights on fleebay individually. Both were used but in mint condition , i think i ended up paying around $160 shipped for both

The upgrade to the 06 projectors seem straightforward and pricey. Doesn't deter me though. So then, just get the headlight assembly, bumper filler, some cord (still haven't figured out for what, BTW, I'm NOT dropping in HIDs)and some plastic clip that goes under the headlight assembly to prevent a gap between the assembly and grill?? I can't seem to find a part number for that. I'll keep searching..............

You're welcome. Should be the ones labeled "Filler" in this post. They do come painted, so the part number could be slightly different.

Yep I'm still here and can now get just about ANY item for any vehicle, no joke. Always email or give me a call from the # on the site.
 
JasonB: It was b/c of you that I upgraded my tail lights to the 2002 version on my SURFs. At the time, IIRC, you offered blacked out and clear lights for the 4R. I wanted OEM, but your website provided the part #s.......thanks (10 years later)

I noticed that the write up for the LED tail light mod (OEM) is very good, but the pics are not working. I took pics but i have to resize them and stuff. I'll post MY PICs, I'm sure they will be useful..............and yeah, this mod is sooo easy, if you can't do it, then go home and hide from society b/c you don't deserve to EVEN TOUCH a wrench or ratchet!! LOL!!!!! (even a mildly handy person can do this!!)
