wow, TRD Headers are hard to find!!

They're not that hard to find!! Every time I go looking for some, I find a set right there in my driveway. :cheers:

My OEM headers are rusted all to hell. Sometimes I want to change them out for something nicer...but I guess they still work. Some of the studs/nuts just look like blobs of rust.
 
that might be your opinion ronMaiden.. everybodys entitled to one.. but that seems to be the myth on this forum that headers are a waste of money for these motors and headers dont really do anything for na motors... which i can tell you having owned 3 LS1'

I agree with RonMaiden. We are not talking about an LS1 here, the engine is a Toyota V6. I have Downey headers and yes I did notice a very small HP and low end Torque gain. Was it worth $1000-$1200? No. In fact I only bought them because the engine was already stripped down due to two bad heads so it only cost me $600 to add them.

Also you need to combine the headers with a high flow exhaust and intake if you want even those small results.

And how does this apply to a 2 cat California exhaust system?....

Dous - ive been reading on guys bashing the welds on these headers, being a welder the welds look more than decent for stainless steel but i know the constant heating and cooling does do damage to welds.. or any metal for that matter..... that and fitment issues have been brought up... did those obx's bolt right up?

Longtubes (nd tune for the new part) on a v8 of course will net a larger gain than on an engine with less hp. Think of it more as a percentage of current Hp , give or take based on design of engine and stock part. but + or - 4% increase on a motor that makes maybe 180hp is like 7hp.

That being said even 12-14 hp increase is negligible at best, the whole purpose of exhaust is that as you continue to mod its going to increase the possible hp increases. I get the every little bit counts, but adding 12hp is something you wont feel, and seat of the pants feeling is in your mind not in actual performance.

The reason the aftermarket is slim for these cars is they are slow, heavy, SUVs with an underpowered engine. They dont make parts cause people dont buy them.


ive had multiple 500+hp LS1s and have a progarched TA currently. Putting money into bolt ons for these cars is pretty pointless. If you wanna go fast, gotta do an engine swap or boost the current one (and even that is just gonna make you slightly less slow..)

Is there a history of those not working? They have a breakdown for 3.4 4runner application, as well as 2.7.

$700+ for mild steel headers though? For that kinda cash, I'd be aiming for something ceramic coated personally. What do you gain on these engines with a header swap, 10-15 hp? A lot of cost/labor unless your longblock is pulled to install something that will give marginal gains.

They are ceramic coated. It's an easy & cheap mod on the 2.7.
