Wrangler Duratrac Tires

Just had a set of Goodyear Duratrac Wranglers installed last week 255/75.

Set out into the logging roads yesterday, ran over a stick(1" diameter), it punctured straight into the sidewall about a good 6 inches in there.

They are a pretty good tire from what I understand they have great ratings and my research led me to ultimately choose them for the truck.

I was pretty disappointed that a wimpy seeming stick would puncture the sidewall. I did some more research and found out that the sidewalls aren't as strong as some of the other tires in its class. For example, the ko2 tires are a 6 ply.

Not sure if they can do anything with the warranty because it doesn't cover sidewalls apparently.

Anyone else had similar issues with these tires?

It definitely looks like you're gonna need a new one. :madgrin: The good news is that they have so few miles on them, a brand new one won't mess up your rotation.

On a car, many moons ago, I had one tire get a puncture that wasn't fixable, and the tire place wouldn't sell me just one since the wear was enough to make a difference.

That's rough... I'd be a bit disappointed if that happened to a brand new tire as well! It probably was a fluke though - my Wildpeaks I believe are only 4 Ply in the SL variant and haven't had any issues like that.

tough luck there, get another and perhaps it wont happen again.

for what its worth the Kumho AT51 same size is listed as a LT but not load E, 6 ply sidewall. highly rated tire i found on amazon. if you dont find a deal theyre up there in price with the KO2.

I had those on my Xterra, good tire for the price. Being that these only have 300kms on them, i will just replace the one and call it bad luck.

I've had the same thing happen to a BFG Mud Terrain. Sometimes the sticks are just sharp enough to start cutting in.

I had those tires. They were junk and all 4 sets of them that I had installed under warranty were not round which caused low speed wobbling. And they went flat. And they were expensive and annoying. I hate them and will never buy a goodyear anything ever again.

just cause a tire states 4, 6, or 10 plys doesnt mean thats the sidewall also, sidewall plys are 2 or 3 plys

Road hazard

It doesn't matter what tire and load rating you have when a projectile decide to puncture your sidewall it's game over, best thing you can do is get a road hazard warranty Tire Rack offers them and I heard a lot of good things about it most tire shops will offer them for the fraction of the cost of a new tire.

Thanks for the information. It was just a misfortune and I think almost any tire would of been punctured in this situation.

I ran Goodyear Duratrac tires for years and never had an issue. Volcanic glass roads in Death Valley and Rock Crawling on granite in the Sierras.

They were amazing in snow as well. I was running the E rated truck tire.

Are you running E rated or C?

Exactly, I've heard 90% good things about this tire. I ran them on my First Gen 4R and always performed awesome for how good they are on the road.

I am not sure the rating, I will have to check. The tire shop didn't ask when I bought them of any other options.

Anyways, had to buy a new tire, hope they hold up now!
