Wranglers or Terragrapplers?

Stuck CAPS

I've been looking at new tires, and I don't know if I should go with Nitto or Goodyear. Opinions and pros/cons please?
Thanks in advance!

$.02 go with the Good Year Duro's I think they look great on every toy i have seen... the terra look too street to me and I don't think they are quite as good as the Duro's are. I am not sure what application your going for.

also check tire ply strength esp. on the sidewall

I have a 2WD SR5, but I'm looking to do some off roading, so I think the Duratracs will make up for some of that lost traction.

Duratracs all the way. Mine have gooten me thru mud, sand, dirt, boulders, snow, and ice without any complains. Road noise isnt even an issue after 12k miles. Ill go with them again when i need new ones, tho that will be quite a while from now considering how they are wearing.

Edit: I can go a long way on most trails before going to 4wd.

I've seen Acidmeld's 265/70's and they look big! The 285's would require a decent amount of trimming and wheel spacers or aftermarket UCA's.

I'm looking at the 265/70's, and wondering any custom fabbing? OR would just removal of mud flaps work?

I'm stock and have 265/70-17 Duratracs. There's no way anything bigger would fit. I have slight rubbing on the skirt that runs behind the shock to protect the engine bay. I'm also really close to the frame rail behind the wheel on full lock when the front is flexed. If it was any wider, I'd be rubbing on the rail. No issues with my mudflaps.

I've had 'em both and like 'em both but the GYs have a bit more bite in the snow and off road . On road the TGs are a bit smoother but both have good anti0hydroplaning characteristics. I do like the agressive look of the Duratracs better and if you off road more than a few times I suggest the GY but the TGs aren't a bad option and I think they are a bit cheaper.

Only thing I'll mention (since I've only had experience with Duratrac's) is that the 2wd sits lower in the front than the 4wd, so it's likely you'll experience more rubbing than most. A small spacer to level the 4runner would be fairly cheap and would help with the rubbing.

I think I know my choice! How is rubbing, though?

I have 265/70/17 Duratracs on my 3 in. lifted 4Runner. My rims have an offset of 0 so they stick out a little over an inch than stock. I had rubbing on the front fender liner and front mud flaps. Took off the front mud flaps and pushed the fender liner forward and that was it. I only had them for about 6-7 thousand miles and they still look brand new and perform great in all conditions. If you can afford the price of the tire and hit to the MPGs, then you really can't go wrong with the Duratracs.

I have never had Duratracs, but I do have a set of 35" Terra Grapplers on a seriously built FJ60. They have done right by me, no complaints. My brother has them on a Cummins powered Dodge, loves them. Availability seems to be excellent, which is nice if you shred one. That is why I don't buy BFGs any more. If you wreck one, you may wait a long, long time to get a replacement.
