I got a quote for some basic clear 3M protection wrap for my doors...

I was pretty thrown back by the price... these guys were quoting $300-350 per door and $500 for the hood.

Do those prices sound right?

Not that I want be become an installer, but at those prices I am considering buying some material and trying it myself.

Not trying to build a show car here, but I just want some extra door protection when I off-road from brush and branches. I expect the stuff to get beat up.

Any tips on what to buy?

I got a quote from a local installer for $1500 for the front end and leading edges of the front quarter panels and hood.

After talking to some folks it doesn't sound like that great of an investment and that there is a very good chance you would need to replace it in a few years. In their words, it works great for guys with expensive cars that don't keep them long, but want to keep them in pristine shape.

I had it on my hood of my Tacoma and got it put on my 4Runner at the port. Im looking at installing clear film on my front bumper mainly because of the bugs here in Louisiana eating paint. Ive watched lots of install videos and it doesn't look hard to install but it does take time so gotta be patient. Theres plenty of videos on youtube to show you how to install. The Toyota branded film is actually Suntek brand.

Sounds about right, I got quoted $1500 to do the roof of my FJ
