Write-up: How to Disable (Bypass) the TPMS

Finally completed this TPMS disable today after about a year of the yellow light blinking. Super quick and easy. I only wish I had a red Scotch-lock connector on hand instead of a blue one but it did work just fine, just had to squish it a little extra to bite into the wires. Thanks OP for the write-up.

Two of my favorite things about my 2003 V8 beast:

1. no TPMS!

2. there's a friekin' transmission dipstick!

This can be done in 5-10 minutes. All you need is a wire connector that can directly connect two wires. What I used was a Scotchlok wire connector (see the first picture below). Here is how:

Steps (on my '05 4Runner):

1. Disconnect the battery (Although I did not do this)
2. Take out the screw that holds the black plastic panel located below the glove box
3. Gently pull the black panel and it should just pop out
4. Drop the panel and you will see that the TPMS module is right there
5. Unplug the harness (as show in the second picture below)
6. Use utility knife or scissors and cut the yellow type open (BE CAREFUL-Not to cut the wires!!!!)
7. Inside the yellow type there is another layer of black type, cut that open as well (again, BE CAREFUL Not to cut the wires!!!)
8. Now, look for two wires: the Pink-Black one (TPMS) and the White-Black (ground) wire (see below the third picture)
9. Use Scotchlok wire connector to connect the Pink-Black wire and the White-Black wire (watch youtube Scotchlok Wiring Demo clip here: ScotchLok Wiring Connector Demonstration - etrailer.com - YouTube) NOTE: Check both channels inside the connector. If one channel is blocked, you need to cut out the plastic block to make adjustment so that the wire can go through just like the other channel).

Done! The TPMS light is now bypassed and the light will never come back on. (Note: this mod is reversable by simply removing the connector or wire a switch to turn it on or off: see TPMS light bypass switch - Toyota 4Runner Forum - Largest 4Runner Forum)

Since the TPMS is disabled, be sure to check your tire pressure regularly.

No need to splice any wires or mess around with a scothlock.

Simply unplug the connector under the glove box, jumper the black/white and pink/black wire pins with a small paper clip, put a piece of electric tape over it and leave it unplugged, simple as that.

Takes all of 3 minutes and the light is gone forever, easily reversible if you decide to return to the TPSM at some point in the future.

Just do what I did, pull the TPMS sensors out of the wheels, install rubber valve stems and pull the TPMS light in the dash. All gone

This was all I had to do on my Sport 2008. Scavenged the wire from a cat5e cable. Taped it up, left it unplugged, light is now off. Someone above mentioned that their wire was not going in all the way. I suspect they either used too fat a wire, or tried to stick it in the wrong rows of holes where the springs are. To be clear, there are *24* holes showing in this pic, not 12! Zoom in if you have to. There is a row of 6 spring holes that will kind-a-sort-a accept a wire (the wrong holes!), a row of sockets for the pins (the right holes!), another row of spring holes, another row of pin holes. Also for anyone trying this today, there is a post above saying that the wire colors changed between 2007 and 2008.

Mod successfull until TPMS light started blinking

I did this mod about 6 months ago and everything was great until the TPMS light came on and started blinking a couple days ago. I double checked the jumped wires and everything is good. The blinking is super annoying and the only thing I can think of is that the TPMS module has failed. Anyone else ever had this happen?

I'm so happy to see this is possible. Just bought my '06 V8, and the light started flashing 3 hours into my drive home. Of course, it's not actually the tire pressure, as I always check it manually.

As soon as I fix the glove box lock, I'm pulling that connector and jumping the two wires, and first trying to leave the plug disconnected with the wires jumped, as demo'd here.

Don't get me wrong, I like the ability to have it, it's excellent as an early warning safety feature. If I were only driving on pavement, I might go through the cost and effort to replace my failing sensors. I'd still be manually checking at every fillup, so not the highest priority for me. I can't remember the last time I didn't have a good tire guage in my driver's door pocket.

I had thought about installing a switch instead of the jumper years ago but never got around to it. I have 2 sets of tires and figured it would be nice to disable the TPMS monitor when the off road tires were on and switch it back on when the on road tires were mounted.

Several years ago the flashing icon started up with the on road tires and just got around to installing a permanent jumper. Kept the connector plugged in.

What else is the tpms connected to? Or is it just the light that comes on?

I tried to do this (except with the pink/black and black/red wires) with my '08 V8 Limited and couldn't get it to work. I even tried it with the pink/black and white/black wires just to be sure.

A couple of ideas:
1) Will the TPMS light be off immediately when starting the vehicle, or does it take a while for it to reset after this operation?
2) I couldn't get the paperclip (any of them) to go in and engage/grab in the harness, even with a lot of force. They just went in a bit and kind of just sat there, so it felt like I wasn't making proper electrical contact. I even tried safety pins to get a sharp entrance point and got the same result. Maybe the gauge is too big on a paper clip?

What gives? Thanks!

Did you ever figure out how to get your bypass to work? Struggling with my '08 V8 Limited also. Tried using a splicing connector and unplugging the harness/wiring between the black/red and pink/black wires - no luck with either.

Hi I'm new to the forum & not sure if this will even be seen as it appears to be over 10yrs old... But it sounds like this procedure is only bypassing or eliminating "just the TPMS light" right? It's not actually turning the tire pressure monitor system or feature off correct?
If so your still going to get error codes that may affect drivability or efficiency to some degree?

But i believe there is a procedure for actually turnning off the TPMS feature that doesn't anything but a few well timed key cycles & button pushes & its done? I just did it on my brothers truck about 3 weeks ago but I don't recall the exact procedure at the moment so I will find it again then try it on my 05 SR5 w/ 4.0L V6 & share my results & the procedure here if it works as it did on his.

There is no secret button pushing sequence for TMPS disable (5th Gen)

Not on 5th Gens you have to physically disable I have not checked in TechStream but I don't think it has an on off option there either.
4th Gens might be different.

Was hoping someone could confirm the wiring on an 08 sr5 v6 with this mod before I dive into it. If anyone could it would be greatly appreciated.
