WTB: 1987 4Runner (Auto, stock) Please be on the lookout for me

This will be my first post, as I am not currently a 4runner owner.

When I was growing up, my dad had a beautiful 1987 4runner which I will include a picture of. He sold it before I was old enough to drive but I always wanted to find one exactly like it to drive for myself.

My dad actually just passed away a little over 3 weeks ago. For some reason all I have been able to think about is his old 4runner and the camping trips we used to take in it.

It's been extremely difficult to find any 4runners from this year for sale so I figured I would come to a yota forum and see what you guys had here.

Even if you guys don't have one for sale, if you could keep an eye out for one and let me know, I would be eternally grateful. This is a very sentimental purchase for myself but I have the money and I am willing to travel to bring the truck home.
I am looking for an automatic '87 in the same paint color, preferably stock with the same wheels and everything.

The picture is of my dad and his 4runner.

EDIT: If any of you guys frequent other toyota forums, I will probably be posting this identical ad there too. I am not trying to spam.

Are you sure it's an 87? I see that color scheme on 88, 89. Was the one your Dad had come with the 22re or V6? You can PM me and I'll keep an eye out for you in Ca. The auto 22re is kind of rare.

I saw one while browsing today. Don't know where you are located but this one is in Phoenix. Needs some work though.

I'm going to be completely honest with you, I have no idea what engine it had or anything like that.
I am going by memory that it was an 87, but after looking at the options for each year, I am really starting to think it was a 1988 or 1989.

If there is some sort of old registry I can look up based on address or name, maybe I could figure it out. Should I check with the DMV?


That vehicle in the link is a little too beat up for my tastes, and it's the wrong color. Money isn't really an issue and neither is distance, so I would like to find one as clean as possible. I know that I will be spending a lot of time fixing the car up mechanically, I do not want to spend too much time fixing it aesthetically.

There is a pretty good looking 1st gen for sale in NE on CL for $4k.
I'm looking for a 3rd gen so not for me.

1984 Toyota 4Runner, 4x4, 4WD, 5sp, manual

The silver paint and the automatic transmission are the big factors for me. I have found tons of beautiful, capable 4runners that I would love to own, but I am really trying to find one comparable to my dad's old ride.
