WTB: 1999-2000 5-Speed, $8-15k Budget

I had my 2000 Sport Edition since 9k miles and someone just totaled it for me (not my fault).

I've been looking since December and can't find what I want, so I thought maybe one of you would want to sell me yours or knew someone selling.

Here is my wish list...

Must Have: 1999 or 2000, 4x4, 3.4, 5 speed, under 200k, black sport edition or white SR5 with flares, rust free, excellent condition, well maintained, good paint/good interior, everything works, clean title, no stories/issues

Like to have: Under 165k miles, TRD supercharger, lockers, bumpers/winch, 4.88s, lift, sliders, rack, ladder, etc.

Price: Depends on condition, miles and mods

I know offering up to $15k sounds crazy, but if it has all of the mods I'm just going to do anyways, I'd pay for the right truck. I'm willing to buy it anywhere in the US (excluding the rusty states).

Be fair with me and I'll be fair with you. (FYI, I think a stock 3rd Gen with 175k & S/C is worth around $7-9k.)

I'll also pay $100 finders fee if you find me a truck I end up buying (and didn't already see on CL, Ebay, Expo, etc.).

Mods, sorry if I got the wrong place for this. I wanted the 3rd Gen guys to see it and sell me their rig :)

I would have been tempted to at least tar and feather them.Owned since 9k? Trying to find a rig with all your likes will be hard. A local niche group or Ebay may be your best bet.
 
Good luck. I searched for a year before settling on my rig and I just wanted a 96-98 with a locker. It's going to be hard to find what your looking for.
 
I had similar needs when I did a search for mine a couple of years ago. The hardest criteria to hit is going to be <200k miles (not that they don't exist, but to hit your other criteria too is going to make it extremely rare). I bought one with 212k and I'm up to 222k now and it's running great. I'd suggest opening your limit up to 250k, because if it's very well maintained then those extra 50k miles shouldn't be a big deal.

^^^ What made he to replace a manual transmission. Those are strong and need only the rear oil seal for its life.
 
If you were shopping last May, I would have sold you my 5-speed '00 SR5. She had a few more miles than you were looking for (228k) but she was in good shape - local Seattle truck with no rust with a decent interior and very mechanically sound.

I asked $6000 and took $5500 - not bad for paying $6300 for her in Sept 2014.

It was a toss up between mad and sad...~15 years and 250k.

I've been eyeing that one, but was hoping I could reset the clock so to speak and roll back to 150-175k. I want to keep this for life (seriously), so starting lower helps. I sold my Taco at 250k, so I'm not sure what life after 250k looks like...I'm shocked with the issues people are having or already addressed in that 175-250k range. I never had these issues on either of mine.

If you were ok with Desert Dune there are a couple for sale in SoCal (for a bit too much, of course). Oh, and I would agree opening it up to ~250k miles max for a well maintained truck. Good luck!

Dude, all day long down here in South Florida.. give me a few days I’ll PM you when I find some.. Nobody wants/needs 4WD down here so they don’t sell as well as 2WD. If it’s original Florida car, they are rust free. The colors you are looking for might be tough but I’ll see what I come up with..not that I need an excuse to look at 4runner stuff. I bought my son an 01 Glacier Metallic, from original lady owner. 161k miles just a few months ago. So I know they are out there. Seems we have a lot of original owner cars here for some reason. I bought my daughter a 05 Civic last year from original old lady owner, only 65k on it.[emoji1360]

Because all of the old people buy new when they move down there to retire. :bigok: My Grandfather did in 1966. Brand new Olds Delta 88 Rocket.
 
One week ago there was a 1999 4runner Highlander edition, 5speed, 160k and rear locker that was $8500 here in Chattanooga, TN. I was tempted. It’s not on there now or I would send it to you.

Could be due to worn syncros on 1st and/or 2nd gear. But I agree with you, that definitely needs a good explanation and hopefully some paperwork from a shop with info on the 'new' transmission.
