Yes and preferred the kdss, but no necessarily require the kdss. Also 2005 and will typically have a few thousand less miles. Though I'm willing to look up to 200k

Even though I've never heard of people having issues, the VVTi motors "require" premium fuel. I've also heard there is no seat of the pants difference with the added 35hp. It seems the 03-04's go for A LOT less money than the 05 and up, which is a bonus. If I were to offer my .02, I'd go for an 04 since it doesn't have VVTi, but has a backup cam and a couple other little nice add ons. If I were to do it again, I'd also get one without navigation/Mark Levinson audio, there is no aftermarket support for the Nav system since all the HVAC controls are done through it. The only thing you can do is add an iPod add on. All of the ML speakers are 8ohm, and are near impossible to find aftermarket replacements that aren't eleventybillion dollars.

Thanks for the input. I have had reservations about the ml stereo system but I didn't know about the nav HVAC system... That makes me rethink the nav

The ML system is OK, but really limits your upgradability due to being integrated with the HVAC system. The nav system on the other hand, is OLD and outdated, a simple map update can't help make it any newer and easier to use, avoid it if possible would be my advice.

Thanks for the input guys. Its hard finding ome that does not have it... I have been looking all up and down the west coast. It seams everyone who bought one of these bought it fully loaded, not surprising given its a Lexus. I want to avoid buying locally mainly because of price... Here in the pnw prices are way inflated (just like our 4runners). I can go to Sacramento or the bay area and get the same vehicle for roughly $4-5k less. That makes buying out of area nice in case I have to get out from under it in a hurry... But makes inspecting one and looking it over in person harder. I want to keep my cost under $16k. If any of you guys see one local to you and want to pass the info on to me that would be great. -I'm open to the 2004 now as well, heck I'd take a 03 it it had the right color combo and low enough miles.

Thanks guys

VVTi engines run fine on regular,my parents have been using it on their '07 since new.

Nav sucked on anything Toyota/Lexus at that time. Searching or inputting a destination required stopping and as IanB mentioned a map update is just that, maps. Audio-wise I found even the base non-navigation GX systems sounded better than 4th-gen 4Runner JBL's.

Has anyone experienced a electrical draw/drain coming from the anti theft system. Was told this is the only issue with the one I'm currently looking at? I know its tied into the ecu so its not really something I can just "unplug"... Should in stay away from it? The gx is originally from PA for its fist 3 years of life and the rest from Seattle area

How much should I ask off the price for this? I was thinking at least $1000

Sounds fishy. Is the seller claiming the battery dies because of excessive draw from the stock antitheft system? It shouldn't. Does it have an add-on alarm/remote start or other electrical accessories?

so i went ahead and bought it... talked them down on the price. so the master window switch is finicky and interment. i think that might be my issue. i know the sunroof glass has been replaced recently (sticker still on the glass) and there are a few other things but very minor. it has a little bit of rust on it but id did spend its first 3 years in PA so that was to be expected. there are a couple interior illuminated switches/controls that are out, no biggie, so yeah now the fun begins.

gonna get some little things done on it HIDs cleaning the frame and chassis once the weather clears up a little, swap over to my tundra wheels... will be deleting the running boards, and getting some metaltech sliders for it. everything else works great on it so far

well today i washed it and after i was done i noticed that the windshield leaks slightly, it leaks down on the drivers A pillar and drips onto the master window switch... boom im pretty sure my problem has been found.

That's crazy, had almost the same issue with my parents' GX! I noticed the driver (all weather) floor mat would be wet when it rained and the keyless entry/door locks/power windows were acting oddly. Turns out the windshield leaked from the upper driver side corner. I put a strip of duct tape across the area for now,no more water infiltration and everything operates normally.

so this is what i ended up with, 2004 130k mi, silver pine metallic, dark grey leather, 3rd row, no nav/ml sound, no KDSS. first order of business was to dump the factory wheels, and replace them with my old 4runners wheels(tundra/sequoia limited wheels) w/285 70 17 nittos. they fit but its tight.

anyhow pictures, because thats all we care about here......

I saw your post over on club lexus. Glad you've gotten your electrical drain sorted out. I've pretty much stopped using that forum after somebody told me I was an idiot for questioning someone's thread about how replacing the gas cap fixed their O2 sensor codes.
We have pretty much the same truck. I'm jealous you don't have Nav or ML sound!

Yeah the Lexus forum seems a little pompous... I think it will mainly be a source of research for me... But I have no issues telling someone to go blow a goat... I know what I know and sorry to say but most Lexus owners are not car people in the way us 4runner people are car people. Learning the Lexus and its idiosyncrasies will take some time. But I might start hanging out in the 4th gen section and seeing what I can learn there...

We looked hard for one without the ML/nav option. It was hard as most people who by a Lexus spring for all the options. Hope you are liking yours. I know I miss mine and its only been a week

Yup, everybody thinks everything should be warrantied even if it's 10 years old with 100,000 miles. I LOVE mine, minus the fact that I just had my windshield tinted on Thursday and it cracked yesterday, lol.
