WTT: 4.88 Ring & Pinion

I have a set of 4.88 gears for a non-elocker Taco and would like to trade for 4.88's for a 3rd Gen 4Runner non-elocker.

I know its a long shot, but I was hoping someone here has some 4.88 sitting around from a old truck.

If you have a 3rd gen and the Taco diff, why don't you just try it? I'd like to see the research that proves it doesn't work

To start Yukon has different part numbers & the Taco is a 30 spline...the 4Runner is a 27 or 29 spline.

You're right Jones, non locked 3rd gens have the standard A Code 8" diff, non locked 1st gen Tacomas have a B code 8.4" rear end.

But you can use older pickup rearends and 1st and 2nd gen 4runner rear ends too.

Yep that is correct, unfortunately in your case!

I am on the hunt for an elocking 3rd member and my 4Runner currently has 4.88 gears from stock. When I switch over I'd need to get the special gears to keep that ratio, and would therefore have a spare set of gears for a 2nd gen 4 runner. Hell I'd have the whole 3rd member laying around. So If you come across an elocker I'll send you my old set up once it's Converted.

Otherwise you'd have to wait til I have the money to buy one from one of the dudes on here. Looking like about $700. Then another $250 for the new gears. that bridge ever gets crossed I'll help you out.
