So I've been searching for an 06-09 Limited/Sport with a V8 and 4x4 with low miles. It's been a tough search because I really want a black one. I found an 06 Limited that has everything I want with 40k mi and one owner, but it does not have the X-REAS suspension. My question is how much does the X-REAS assist with towing? I will be towing a large boat (about 5000lbs including the trailer) quite a bit and trying to decide if I should find one with the X-REAS suspension. Thanks in advance!

The purpose of Xreas isn't really meant to assit with towing. You will probably be better served with an airbag setup in the rear to level you off, which is not very expensive or difficult to add.
Xreas is meant for road driving. Drive and compare one with and one without to determine if you want/need it for day to day driving while not towing.
Some have claimed that xreas can help in towing, in that if the rear sags, the system will level it back up. But I wouldn't think that the system was designed purposefully to do that for extended periods of time, since when you drive weight shifts front to rear, side to side, etc...but is always changing, it is not permanently weighed down on one end. Still if it wasn't good for towing, toyota probably would have lowered the tow rating on xreas trucks? Just keep in mind, the goal for xreas is make a truck have a more spirited driving feel.

I towed ski boats from 4-7k lbs, 19-25ft with my 07 v8 xreas with absolutely no problems even at 6000ft elevation! Xreas doesn't help, but it doesn't hurt. Don't make your decision based on xreas or not, you'll probably replace it soon anyways. I would to at least FJ springs and airbags. Make your decision on the trim, if you care, and the drivetrain.
