X-REAS replacement with out using lift kit

First time posting here so forgive me if this is repetitive. I have an '05 sport edition with X-REAS that is starting to give trouble (surprise, surprise.) I want to remove the system and replace it with a standard gas operated shocks/struts. I would lift it but my wife drives it regularly and doesn't want it any higher than it is. I guess my question is has any one done a conversion without the using a lift kit and if so what shocks/struts did you use. Thanks

You could use the Bilstien 5100s set at 0" and just reuse the coils on all 4 corners. That would probably give you the best ride.

Or, buy the replacements for a non-XREAS 4runner and just remove the system and reuse the coils.
 
What are your symptoms? I thought my XREAS was going bad but turned out to be some off balanced tires.

Check before you blow money.
 
My current symptoms are leaky shocks so I know the system needs replaced. King, have you done the swap using the 5100s and stock springs. If so how did it handle and did you notice any body roll/nose diving. How did it differ from XREAS
 
I guess its possible but I would like to know what to expect out of the swap. I don't want my 4runner to be anything less than it is: the perfect vehicle.
 
The xreas on my wifes 4Runner were leaking about a month back. I ended up putting in the Blistein 5100s with the stock springs. Changed the front height by one notch and it looks quite leveled now.

The ride is more firm (I personally like it better) and there is a little bit of body roll, but my wifes not doing any crazy cornering so its works just fine. I have pushed it on the corners and it has done just fine. If you can get some fj springs, its a great combo with the Blisteins as well.
 
where did you buy the 5100s at a local shop or from someone like toytec. I can decide now if I should go with the 5100's and stock springs, 5100's with the FJ springs or the toytec ultimate lift kit. my wife isnt sold on the lift kit yet but I would do it in the blink of an eye.

down south motor sports has the set for 309 IIRC
 
Partznet has the springs for $328.00 with the 5% discount. Sometimes they have a 10% or even a 15% discount. Those are brand new ones though.
 
After weighing the options and talking to the wife I went with the toytec ultimate lift. Now that its installed it looks a little weird with the stock 265 tires. Any suggestions on a larger size. I want the new tire size to fit my 17" stock wheels.

I'm pretty sure that's what size I'm running now. Will a 285 or 305 fit the stock wheels. Has anybody tried. If so did you have to use wheel spacers.

285 fits stock wheels no problem, 305's are a little big
with those sizes, you will need wheel spacers to clear the UCA's, or aftermarket wheels
